This could result in a reference count leak, preventing proper cleanup and potentially leading to resource exhaustion. Add put_device() to release the reference in the error handling path. [ Upstream commit f53b24d1fa263f56155213eabab734c18d884aff ] When elfcorehdr is prepared for kdump, the program header representing the first 64 KB of memory is expected to have its offset point to the backup region. This is required because purgatory copies the first 64 KB of the crashed kernel memory to this backup region following a kernel crash. This allows the capture kernel to use the first 64 KB of memory to place the exception vectors and other required data. When elfcorehdr is recreated due to memory hotplug, the offset of the program header representing the first 64 KB is not updated. As a result, the capture kernel exports the first 64 KB at offset 0, even though the data actually resides in the backup region. Fix this by calling sync_backup_region_phdr() to update the program header offset in the elfcorehdr created during memory hotplug. sync_backup_region_phdr() works for images loaded via the kexec_file_load syscall. However, it does not work for kexec_load, because image->arch.backup_start is not initialized in that case. So introduce machine_kexec_post_load() to process the elfcorehdr prepared by kexec-tools and initialize image->arch.backup_start for kdump images loaded via kexec_load syscall. Rename update_backup_region_phdr() to sync_backup_region_phdr() and extend it to synchronize the backup region offset between the kdump image and the ELF core header. The helper now supports updating either the kdump image from the ELF program header or updating the ELF program header from the kdump image, avoiding code duplication. Define ARCH_HAS_KIMAGE_ARCH and struct kimage_arch when CONFIG_KEXEC_FILE or CONFIG_CRASH_DUMP is enabled so that kimage->arch.backup_start is available with the kexec_load system call. This patch depends on the patch titled "powerpc/crash: fix backup region offset update to elfcorehdr". [ Upstream commit 789335cacdf37da93bb7c70322dff8c7e82881df ] update_backup_region_phdr() in file_load_64.c iterates over all the program headers in the kdump kernel’s elfcorehdr and updates the p_offset of the program header whose physical address starts at 0. However, the loop logic is incorrect because the program header pointer is not updated during iteration. Since elfcorehdr typically contains PT_NOTE entries first, the PT_LOAD program header with physical address 0 is never reached. As a result, its p_offset is not updated to point to the backup region. Because of this behavior, the capture kernel exports the first 64 KB of the crashed kernel’s memory at offset 0, even though that memory actually lives in the backup region. When a crash happens, purgatory copies the first 64 KB of the crashed kernel’s memory into the backup region so the capture kernel can safely use it. This has not caused problems so far because the first 64 KB is usually identical in both the crashed and capture kernels. However, this is just an assumption and is not guaranteed to always hold true. Fix update_backup_region_phdr() to correctly update the p_offset of the program header with a starting physical address of 0 by correcting the logic used to iterate over the program headers. [ Upstream commit fda4d71651f71c44b35829d13f3c8bf920032f77 ] powerpc uses pt_frag_refcount as a reference counter for tracking it's pte and pmd page table fragments. For PTE table, in case of Hash with 64K pagesize, we have 16 fragments of 4K size in one 64K page. Patch series [1] "mm: free retracted page table by RCU" added pte_free_defer() to defer the freeing of PTE tables when retract_page_tables() is called for madvise MADV_COLLAPSE on shmem range. Now, if this process exits, with such folio as it's cached pte_frag in mm->context, then during pte_frag_destroy(), we simply call pagetable_dtor() and pagetable_free(), meaning it doesn't clear the active flag. This, can lead to the above bug. Since we are anyway in do_exit() path, then if the refcount is 0, then I guess it should be ok to simply clear the folio active flag before calling pagetable_dtor() & pagetable_free(). During allocation the XIVE code creates a struct xive_irq_data and stores it in irq_data->chip_data. When the MSI-X irqdomain is later freed, xive_irq_free_data() is responsible for retrieving this structure and freeing it. However, after commit cc0cc23babc9 ("powerpc/xive: Untangle xive from child interrupt controller drivers"), xive_irq_free_data() retrieves the chip_data using irq_get_chip_data(), which looks up the data through the child domain. This is incorrect because the XIVE-specific irq data is associated with the XIVE (parent) domain. As a result the lookup fails and the allocated struct xive_irq_data is never freed, leading to the kmemleak report shown above. Fix this by retrieving the irq_data from the correct domain using irq_domain_get_irq_data() and then accessing the chip_data via irq_data_get_irq_chip_data(). If there was an error writing bytes into the user buffer, i.e. if copy_to_user returns a non-zero value, then we should simply return -EFAULT from the ->read() call. Otherwise, in the non-patched version, we may end up mixing "bytes_not_copied + bytes_copied (HVPIPE_HDR_LEN)" as the return value to the user in ->read() call Also let's make sure we clear the hvpipe_status flag, if we have consumed the hvpipe msg by making the rtas call. ret = -EFAULT means copy_to_user has failed but that still means that the msg was read from the hvpipe, hence for both cases, success & -EFAULT, we should clear the HVPIPE_MSG_AVAILABLE flag in hvpipe_status. This simplifies the init flow. While at it let's also fix the following error handling logic: We have already enabled interrupt sources and enabled hvpipe to received interrupts, if misc_register() fails, we will destroy the workqueue, but the HMC might send us a msg via hvpipe which will call, queue work on the workqueue which might be destroyed. So instead, let's reverse the order of enabling set_hvpipe_sys_param(1) and in case of an error let's remove the misc dev by calling misc_deregister(). This is mainly because we need to ensure only 1 user get the srcID handle. To simplify this, we allocate prepare the src_info in the beginning and add it to the global list under a spinlock after checking that no duplicates exist. Because the struct papr_hvpipe_hdr contains reserved padding bytes (reserved[3] and reserved2[40]), these could leak the uninitialized bytes to userspace after copy_to_user(). This patch fixes that by initializing the whole struct to 0. 2026-05-14powerpc/kdump: fix KASAN sanitization flag for core_$(BITS).oSourabh Jain1-1/+1
commit b3a97f9484080c6e71db9e803e3cc1bb372a9bc7 upstream. KASAN instrumentation is intended to be disabled for the kexec core code, but the existing Makefile entry misses the object suffix. As a result, the flag is not applied correctly to core_$(BITS).o. So when KASAN is enabled, kexec_copy_flush and copy_segments in kexec/core_64.c are instrumented, which can result in accesses to shadow memory via normal address translation paths. Since these run with the MMU disabled, such accesses may trigger page faults (bad_page_fault) that cannot be handled in the kdump path, ultimately causing a hang and preventing the kdump kernel from booting. The same is true for kexec as well, since the same functions are used there. Update the entry to include the “.o” suffix so that KASAN instrumentation is properly disabled for this object file. The 'flushcache' function was only used from the iterator code, and let's make it do the same thing that the nontemporal version does: remove the two underscores and add the user address checking. Yes, yes, the user address checking is also done at iovec import time, but we have long since walked away from the old double-underscore thing where we try to avoid address checking overhead at access time, and these functions shouldn't be so special and old-fashioned. The arm64 version already did the address check, in fact, so there it's just a matter of renaming it. For powerpc and x86-64 we now do the proper user access boilerplate. Commit a75b2be249d6 ("iommu: Add iommu_driver_get_domain_for_dev() helper") introduced iommu_driver_get_domain_for_dev() for driver code paths that hold iommu_group->mutex while attaching a device to an IOMMU domain. The same commit also added a lockdep assertion in iommu_get_domain_for_dev() to ensure that callers do not hold iommu_group->mutex when invoking it. 2026-03-12powerpc: fix KUAP warning in VMX usercopy pathSayali Patil4-50/+63
On powerpc with PREEMPT_FULL or PREEMPT_LAZY and function tracing enabled, KUAP warnings can be triggered from the VMX usercopy path under memory stress workloads. KUAP requires that no subfunctions are called once userspace access has been enabled. The existing VMX copy implementation violates this requirement by invoking enter_vmx_usercopy() from the assembly path after userspace access has already been enabled. If preemption occurs in this window, the AMR state may not be preserved correctly, leading to unexpected userspace access state and resulting in KUAP warnings. Fix this by restructuring the VMX usercopy flow so that VMX selection and VMX state management are centralized in raw_copy_tofrom_user(), which is invoked by the raw_copy_{to,from,in}_user() wrappers. The new flow is: - raw_copy_{to,from,in}_user() calls raw_copy_tofrom_user() - raw_copy_tofrom_user() decides whether to use the VMX path based on size and CPU capability - Call enter_vmx_usercopy() before enabling userspace access - Enable userspace access as per the copy direction and perform the VMX copy - Disable userspace access as per the copy direction - Call exit_vmx_usercopy() - Fall back to the base copy routine if the VMX copy faults With this change, the VMX assembly routines no longer perform VMX state management or call helper functions; they only implement the copy operations. The previous feature-section based VMX selection inside __copy_tofrom_user_power7() is removed, and a dedicated __copy_tofrom_user_power7_vmx() entry point is introduced. This ensures correct KUAP ordering, avoids subfunction calls while KUAP is unlocked, and eliminates the warnings while preserving the VMX fast path. 2026-03-07powerpc64/bpf: fix kfunc call supportHari Bathini2-9/+94
Commit 61688a82e047 ("powerpc/bpf: enable kfunc call") inadvertently enabled kfunc call support for 32-bit powerpc but that support will not be possible until ABI mismatch between 32-bit powerpc and eBPF is handled in 32-bit powerpc JIT code. Till then, advertise support only for 64-bit powerpc. Also, in powerpc ABI, caller needs to extend the arguments properly based on signedness. The JIT code is responsible for handling this explicitly for kfunc calls as verifier can't handle this for each architecture-specific ABI needs. But this was not taken care of while kfunc call support was enabled for powerpc. Fix it by handling this with bpf_jit_find_kfunc_model() and using zero_extend() & sign_extend() helper functions. 2026-03-07powerpc64/bpf: remove BPF redzone protection in trampoline stackHari Bathini1-56/+33
Since bpf2bpf tailcall support is enabled for 64-bit powerpc with kernel commit 2ed2d8f6fb38 ("powerpc64/bpf: Support tailcalls with subprogs"), 'tailcalls/tailcall_bpf2bpf_hierarchy_fexit' BPF selftest is triggering "corrupted stack end detected inside scheduler" with the config option CONFIG_SCHED_STACK_END_CHECK enabled. While reviewing the stack layout for BPF trampoline, observed that the dummy frame is trying to protect the redzone of BPF program. This is because tail call info and NVRs save area are in redzone at the time of tailcall as the current BPF program stack frame is teared down before the tailcall. But saving this redzone in the dummy frame of trampoline is unnecessary because of the follow reasons: 1) Firstly, trampoline can be attached to BPF entry/main program or subprog. But prologue part of the BPF entry/main program, where the trampoline attachpoint is, is skipped during tailcall. So, protecting the redzone does not arise when the trampoline is not even triggered in this scenario. 2) In case of subprog, the caller's stackframe is already setup and the subprog's stackframe is yet to be setup. So, nothing on the redzone to be protected. Also, using dummy frame in BPF trampoline, wastes critically scarce kernel stack space, especially in tailcall sequence, for marginal benefit in stack unwinding. So, drop setting up the dummy frame. Instead, save return address in bpf trampoline frame and use it as appropriate. Pruning this unnecessary stack usage mitigates the likelihood of stack overflow in scenarios where bpf2bpf tailcalls and fexit programs are mixed. Ideally, the offset used to load the tail call info field and to find the pass by reference address for tail call field should be the same. But while setting up the tail call info in the trampoline, this was not followed. This can be misleading and can lead to unpredictable results if and when bpf_has_stack_frame() ends up returning true for trampoline frame. Since commit 15513beeb673 ("powerpc64/bpf: Moving tail_call_cnt to bottom of frame") and commit 2ed2d8f6fb38 ("powerpc64/bpf: Support tailcalls with subprogs") ensured tail call field is at the bottom of the stack frame for BPF programs as well as BPF trampoline, avoid relying on bpf_jit_stack_tailcallinfo_offset() and bpf_has_stack_frame() for trampoline frame and always calculate tail call field offset with reference to older frame. Support for -fpatchable-function-entry on ppc64le was added in Clang with [1]. However, when no prefix NOPs are specified - as is the case with CONFIG_PPC_FTRACE_OUT_OF_LINE - the first NOP is emitted at LEP, but Clang records the Global Entry Point (GEP) unlike GCC which does record the Local Entry Point (LEP). Issue [2] has been raised to align Clang's behavior with GCC. The total number of out-of-line (OOL) stubs required for function tracing is determined using the following command: $(OBJDUMP) -r -j __patchable_function_entries vmlinux.o While this works correctly with GNU objdump, llvm-objdump does not list the expected relocation records for this section. Fix this by using the -d option and counting R_PPC64_ADDR64 relocation entries. This works as desired with both objdump and llvm-objdump. With crash hotplug support enabled, additional memory is allocated to the elfcorehdr kexec segment to accommodate resources added during memory hotplug events. However, the kdump FDT is not updated with the same size, which can result in elfcorehdr corruption in the kdump kernel. Update elf_headers_sz (the kimage member representing the size of the elfcorehdr kexec segment) to reflect the total memory allocated for the elfcorehdr segment instead of the elfcorehdr buffer size at the time of kdump load. This allows of_kexec_alloc_and_setup_fdt() to reserve the full elfcorehdr memory in the kdump FDT and prevents elfcorehdr corruption. On PPC32, for 64 bits vars a pair of registers is used. Usually the lower register in the pair is the high part and the higher register is the low part. GCC uses r3/r4 ... r11/r12 ... r14/r15 ... r30/r31 In older kernel code inline assembly was using %1 and %1+1 to represent 64 bits values. However here it looks like clang uses r31 as high part, allthough r32 doesn't exist hence the error. Allthoug %1+1 should work, most places now use %L1 instead of %1+1, so let's do the same here. 2026-03-04powerpc/e500: Always use 64 bits PTEChristophe Leroy5-110/+5
Today there are two PTE formats for e500: - The 64 bits format, used - On 64 bits kernel - On 32 bits kernel with 64 bits physical addresses - On 32 bits kernel with support of huge pages - The 32 bits format, used in other cases Maintaining two PTE formats means unnecessary maintenance burden because every change needs to be implemented and tested for both formats. Remove the 32 bits PTE format. The memory usage increase due to larger PTEs is minimal (approx. 0,1% of memory). This also means that from now on huge pages are supported also with 32 bits physical addresses. 2026-03-03powerpc/pci: Initialize msi_addr_mask for OF-created PCI devicesNilay Shroff1-0/+7
Recent changes replaced the use of no_64bit_msi with msi_addr_mask. As a result, msi_addr_mask is now expected to be initialized to DMA_BIT_MASK(64) when a pci_dev is set up. However, this initialization was missed on powerpc due to differences in the device initialization path compared to other (x86) architecture. Due to this, now PCI device probe method fails on powerpc system. On powerpc systems, struct pci_dev instances are created from device tree nodes via of_create_pci_dev(). Because msi_addr_mask was not initialized there, it remained zero. Later, during MSI setup, msi_verify_entries() validates the programmed MSI address against pdev->msi_addr_mask. Since the mask was not set correctly, the validation fails, causing PCI driver probe failures for devices on powerpc systems. Initialize pdev->msi_addr_mask to DMA_BIT_MASK(64) in of_create_pci_dev() so that MSI address validation succeeds and device probe works as expected.
