2015-10-13powerpc/MSI: Fix race condition in tearing down MSI interruptsPaul Mackerras1-1/+3
commit e297c939b745e420ef0b9dc989cb87bda617b399 upstream. This fixes a race which can result in the same virtual IRQ number being assigned to two different MSI interrupts. The most visible consequence of that is usually a warning and stack trace from the sysfs code about an attempt to create a duplicate entry in sysfs. The race happens when one CPU (say CPU 0) is disposing of an MSI while another CPU (say CPU 1) is setting up an MSI. CPU 0 calls (for example) pnv_teardown_msi_irqs(), which calls msi_bitmap_free_hwirqs() to indicate that the MSI (i.e. its hardware IRQ number) is no longer in use. Then, before CPU 0 gets to calling irq_dispose_mapping() to free up the virtal IRQ number, CPU 1 comes in and calls msi_bitmap_alloc_hwirqs() to allocate an MSI, and gets the same hardware IRQ number that CPU 0 just freed. CPU 1 then calls irq_create_mapping() to get a virtual IRQ number, which sees that there is currently a mapping for that hardware IRQ number and returns the corresponding virtual IRQ number (which is the same virtual IRQ number that CPU 0 was using). CPU 0 then calls irq_dispose_mapping() and frees that virtual IRQ number. Now, if another CPU comes along and calls irq_create_mapping(), it is likely to get the virtual IRQ number that was just freed, resulting in the same virtual IRQ number apparently being used for two different hardware interrupts. To fix this race, we just move the call to msi_bitmap_free_hwirqs() to after the call to irq_dispose_mapping(). Since virq_to_hw() doesn't work for the virtual IRQ number after irq_dispose_mapping() has been called, we need to call it before irq_dispose_mapping() and remember the result for the msi_bitmap_free_hwirqs() call. The pattern of calling msi_bitmap_free_hwirqs() before irq_dispose_mapping() appears in 5 places under arch/powerpc, and appears to have originated in commit 05af7bd2d75e ("[POWERPC] MPIC U3/U4 MSI backend") from 2007. 2015-08-07powerpc/pseries: Correct cpu affinity for dlpar added cpusNathan Fontenot1-7/+6
commit f32393c943e297b8ae180c8f83d81a156c7d0412 upstream. The incorrect ordering of operations during cpu dlpar add results in invalid affinity for the cpu being added. The ibm,associativity property in the device tree is populated with all zeroes for the added cpu which results in invalid affinity mappings and all cpus appear to belong to node 0. This occurs because rtas configure-connector is called prior to making the rtas set-indicator calls. Phyp does not assign affinity information for a cpu until the rtas set-indicator calls are made to set the isolation and allocation state. Correct the order of operations to make the rtas set-indicator calls (done in dlpar_acquire_drc) before calling rtas configure-connector. 2015-02-20vm: add VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV handling supportLinus Torvalds1-1/+1
commit 33692f27597fcab536d7cbbcc8f52905133e4aa7 upstream. The core VM already knows about VM_FAULT_SIGBUS, but cannot return a "you should SIGSEGV" error, because the SIGSEGV case was generally handled by the caller - usually the architecture fault handler. That results in lots of duplication - all the architecture fault handlers end up doing very similar "look up vma, check permissions, do retries etc" - but it generally works. However, there are cases where the VM actually wants to SIGSEGV, and applications _expect_ SIGSEGV. In particular, when accessing the stack guard page, libsigsegv expects a SIGSEGV. And it usually got one, because the stack growth is handled by that duplicated architecture fault handler. However, when the generic VM layer started propagating the error return from the stack expansion in commit fee7e49d4514 ("mm: propagate error from stack expansion even for guard page"), that now exposed the existing VM_FAULT_SIGBUS result to user space. And user space really expected SIGSEGV, not SIGBUS. To fix that case, we need to add a VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV, and teach all those duplicate architecture fault handlers about it. They all already have the code to handle SIGSEGV, so it's about just tying that new return value to the existing code, but it's all a bit annoying. This is the mindless minimal patch to do this. A more extensive patch would be to try to gather up the mostly shared fault handling logic into one generic helper routine, and long-term we really should do that cleanup. Just from this patch, you can generally see that most architectures just copied (directly or indirectly) the old x86 way of doing things, but in the meantime that original x86 model has been improved to hold the VM semaphore for shorter times etc and to handle VM_FAULT_RETRY and other "newer" things, so it would be a good idea to bring all those improvements to the generic case and teach other architectures about them too. After migration/hibernation those threads are taken back offline. During migration/hibernation all online CPUs must call H_JOIN, this is required by the hypervisor. Without this patch, threads that are offline (H_CEDE'd) will not be woken to make the H_JOIN call and the OS will be deadlocked (all threads either JOIN'd or CEDE'd). performed before the ANDCOND test commit 9fb2640159f9d4f5a2a9d60e490482d4cbecafdb upstream. Some versions of pHyp will perform the adjunct partition test before the ANDCOND test. The result of this is that H_RESOURCE can be returned and cause the BUG_ON condition to occur. The HPTE is not removed. So add a check for H_RESOURCE, it is ok if this HPTE is not removed as pSeries_lpar_hpte_remove is looking for an HPTE to remove and not a specific HPTE to remove. So it is ok to just move on to the next slot and try again. 2013-03-06powerpc/eeh: Fix crash when adding a device in a slot with DDWThadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo1-1/+23
commit 6a040ce72598159a74969a2d01ab0ba5ee6536b3 upstream. The DDW code uses a eeh_dev struct from the pci_dev. However, this is not set until eeh_add_device_late is called. Since pci_bus_add_devices is called before eeh_add_device_late, the PCI devices are added to the bus, making drivers' probe hooks to be called. These will call set_dma_mask, which will call the DDW code, which will require the eeh_dev struct from pci_dev. This would result in a crash, due to a NULL dereference. Calling eeh_add_device_late after pci_bus_add_devices would make the system BUG, because device files shouldn't be added to devices there were not added to the system. So, a new function is needed to add such files only after pci_bus_add_devices have been called. Unpaired calling of probe_hcall_entry and probe_hcall_exit might happen as following, which could cause incorrect preempt count. __trace_hcall_entry => trace_hcall_entry -> probe_hcall_entry => get_cpu_var => preempt_disable __trace_hcall_exit => trace_hcall_exit -> probe_hcall_exit => put_cpu_var => preempt_enable where: A => B and A -> B means A calls B, but => means A will call B through function name, and B will definitely be called. -> means A will call B through function pointer, so B might not be called if the function pointer is not set. So error happens when only one of probe_hcall_entry and probe_hcall_exit get called during a hcall. Fixes the PS3 bootup hang introduced in 3.0-rc1 by: commit 317f394160e9beb97d19a84c39b7e5eb3d7815a sched: Move the second half of ttwu() to the remote cpu Move the PS3's LV1 EOI call lv1_end_of_interrupt_ext() from ps3_chip_eoi() to ps3_get_irq() for IPI messages. If lv1_send_event_locally() is called between a previous call to lv1_send_event_locally() and the coresponding call to lv1_end_of_interrupt_ext() the second event will not be delivered to the target cpu. The PS3's SMP IPIs are implemented using lv1_send_event_locally(), so if two IPI messages of the same type are sent to the same target in a relatively short period of time the second IPI event can become lost when lv1_end_of_interrupt_ext() is called from ps3_chip_eoi(). 2011-11-03powerpc/83xx: Add shutdown request support to MCU handling on MPC8349 MITXFabio Baltieri2-2/+58
This patch add support for calling ctrl_alt_del() when the power button is pressed for more than about 2 seconds on some freescale MPC83xx evaluation boards and reference design. The code uses a kthread to poll the CTRL_BTN bit each second. Also change Kconfig entry of the driver to bool, as device's gpio registration is broken when loading as module. Normally logical and hard cpu ID are the same, however in same cases like on the P3060 they may differ. Where the logical is 0..5, the hard id goes 0,1,4..7. This can causes issues for places we utilize PIR to index into array like in debug exception handlers for finding the exception stack. 2011-10-12powerpc/85xx: clean up FPGA device tree nodes for Freecsale QorIQ boardsTimur Tabi1-4/+7
Standarize and document the FPGA nodes used on Freescale QorIQ reference boards. There are different kinds of FPGAs used on the boards, but only two are currently standard: "pixis", "ngpixis", and "qixis". Although there are minor differences among the boards that have one kind of FPGA, most of the functionality is the same, so it makes sense to create common compatibility strings. We also need to update the P1022DS platform file, because the compatible string for its PIXIS node has changed. This means that older kernels are not compatible with newer device trees. This is not a real problem, however, since that particular function doesn't work anyway. When the DIU is active, the PIXIS is in "indirect mode", and so cannot be accessed as a memory-mapped device.
