We already implemented support for 64bit book3s in commit bff9beaa2e80 ("powerpc/pgtable: support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE for book3s") Let's support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE also in 32bit by reusing yet unused LSB 2 / MSB 29. There seems to be no real reason why that bit cannot be used, and reusing it avoids having to steal one bit from the swap offset. While at it, mask the type in __swp_entry(). Commit baf1ed24b27d ("powerpc/mm: Remove empty hash__ functions") removed some empty hash MMU flushing routines, but got a bit overeager and also removed the call to hash__tlb_flush() from tlb_flush(). In regular use this doesn't lead to any noticable breakage, which is a little concerning. Presumably there are flushes happening via other paths such as arch_leave_lazy_mmu_mode(), and/or a bit of luck. Fix it by reinstating the call to hash__tlb_flush(). 2022-11-30powerpc/tlb: Add local flush for page given mm_struct and psizeBenjamin Gray2-0/+16
Adds a local TLB flush operation that works given an mm_struct, VA to flush, and page size representation. Most implementations mirror the surrounding code. The book3s/32/tlbflush.h implementation is left as a BUILD_BUG because it is more complicated and not required for anything as yet. This removes the need to create a vm_area_struct, which the temporary patching mm work does not need. 2022-11-30powerpc/mm: Remove flush_all_mm, local_flush_all_mmBenjamin Gray2-37/+0
These functions were introduced for "cxl: Enable global TLBIs for cxl contexts" [1], which ended up using them for Radix only. They were never implemented on Hash (and creating an implementation appears to be difficult), so nothing can actually rely on them. They behave differently to the existing surrounding functions too, in that they actually need to do something on Hash. The other functions are primarily for use in generic code that expects their definitions, but Hash updates the TLB during PTE updates. After replacing the only usage with the Radix specific version, there are no more users of these functions, and given they are not implemented anyway it is safe to delete them. 2022-11-30powerpc/mm: Remove empty hash__ functionsBenjamin Gray2-46/+9
The empty hash__* functions are unnecessary. The empty definitions were introduced when 64-bit Hash support was added, as the functions were still used in generic code. These empty definitions were prefixed with hash__ when Radix support was added, and new wrappers with the original names were added that selected the Radix or Hash version based on radix_enabled(). But the hash__ prefixed functions were not part of a public interface, so there is no need to include them for compatibility with anything. Generic code will use the non-prefixed wrappers, and Hash specific code will know that there is no point in calling them (or even worse, call them and expect them to do something). 2022-09-28powerpc/64s: Enable KFENCE on book3s64Nicholas Miehlbradt2-3/+5
KFENCE support was added for ppc32 in commit 90cbac0e995d ("powerpc: Enable KFENCE for PPC32"). Enable KFENCE on ppc64 architecture with hash and radix MMUs. It uses the same mechanism as debug pagealloc to protect/unprotect pages. All KFENCE kunit tests pass on both MMUs. KFENCE memory is initially allocated using memblock but is later marked as SLAB allocated. This necessitates the change to __pud_free to ensure that the KFENCE pages are freed appropriately. 2022-09-26powerpc/mm/64s: Drop p4d_leaf()Michael Ellerman1-7/+0
Because 64-bit Book3S uses pgtable-nop4d.h, the P4D is folded into the PGD. So P4D entries are actually PGD entries, or vice versa. The other way to think of it is that the P4D is a single entry page table below the PGD. Zero bits of the address are needed to index into the P4D, therefore a P4D entry maps the same size address space as a PGD entry. As explained in the previous commit, there are no huge page sizes supported directly at the PGD level on 64-bit Book3S, so there are also no huge page sizes supported at the P4D level. Therefore p4d_is_leaf() can never be true, so drop the definition and fallback to the default implementation that always returns false. 2022-09-26powerpc/mm/64s: Drop pgd_huge()Michael Ellerman2-19/+0
On powerpc there are two ways for huge pages to be represented in the top level page table, aka PGD (Page Global Directory). If the address space mapped by an individual PGD entry does not correspond to a given huge page size, then the PGD entry points to a non-standard page table, known as a "hugepd" (Huge Page Directory). The hugepd contains some number of huge page PTEs sufficient to map the address space with the given huge page size. On the other hand, if the address space mapped by an individual PGD entry does correspond exactly to a given huge page size, that PGD entry is used to directly encode the huge page PTE in place. In this case the pgd_huge() wrapper indicates to generic code that the PGD entry is actually a huge page PTE. This commit deals with the pgd_huge() case only, it does nothing with respect to the hugepd case. Over time the size of the virtual address space supported on powerpc has increased several times, which means the location at which huge pages can sit in the tree has also changed. There have also been new huge page sizes added, with the introduction of the Radix MMU. On Power9 and later with the Radix MMU, the largest huge page size in any implementation is 1GB. Since the introduction of Radix, 1GB entries have been supported at the PUD level, with both 4K and 64K base page size. Radix has never had a supported huge page size at the PGD level. On Power8 or earlier, which uses the Hash MMU, or Power9 or later with the Hash MMU enabled, the largest huge page size is 16GB. Using the Hash MMU and a base page size of 4K, 16GB has never been a supported huge page size at the PGD level, due to the geometry being incompatible. The two supported huge page sizes (16M & 16GB) both use the hugepd format. Using the Hash MMU and a base page size of 64K, 16GB pages were supported in the past at the PGD level. However in commit ba95b5d03596 ("powerpc/mm/book3s/64: Rework page table geometry for lower memory usage") the page table layout was reworked to shrink the size of the PGD. As a result the 16GB page size now fits at the PUD level when using 64K base page size. Therefore there are no longer any supported configurations where pgd_huge() can be true, so drop the definitions for pgd_huge(), and fallback to the generic definition which is always false. 2022-09-08powerpc/64s: add pte_needs_flush and huge_pmd_needs_flushNicholas Piggin2-0/+59
Allow PTE changes to avoid flushing the TLB when access permissions are being relaxed, the dirty bit is being set, and the accessed bit is being changed. Relaxing access permissions and setting dirty and accessed bits do not require a flush because the MMU will re-load the PTE and notice the updates (it may also cause a spurious fault). Clearing the accessed bit does not require a flush because of the imprecise PTE accessed bit accounting that is already performed, as documented in ptep_clear_flush_young(). This reduces TLB flushing for some mprotect(2) calls. 2022-08-26powerpc/mm: Support execute-only memory on the Radix MMURussell Currey1-0/+2
Add support for execute-only memory (XOM) for the Radix MMU by using an execute-only mapping, as opposed to the RX mapping used by powerpc's other MMUs. The Hash MMU already supports XOM through the execute-only pkey, which is a separate mechanism shared with x86. A PROT_EXEC-only mapping will map to RX, and then the pkey will be applied on top of it. mmap() and mprotect() consumers in userspace should observe the same behaviour on Hash and Radix despite the differences in implementation. Replacing the vma_is_accessible() check in access_error() with a read check should be functionally equivalent for non-Radix MMUs, since it follows write and execute checks. For Radix, the change enables detecting faults on execute-only mappings where vma_is_accessible() would return true. 2022-07-27powerpc/64s: Remove spurious fault flushing for NMMUNicholas Piggin1-3/+23
Commit 6d8278c414cb2 ("powerpc/64s/radix: do not flush TLB on spurious fault") removed the TLB flush for spurious faults, except when a coprocessor (nest MMU) maps the address space. This is not needed because the NMMU workaround in the PTE permission upgrade paths prevents PTEs existing with less restrictive access permissions than their corresponding TLB entries have. Remove it and replace with a comment. 2022-05-22powerpc: Book3S 64-bit outline-only KASAN supportDaniel Axtens3-3/+16
Implement a limited form of KASAN for Book3S 64-bit machines running under the Radix MMU, supporting only outline mode. - Enable the compiler instrumentation to check addresses and maintain the shadow region. (This is the guts of KASAN which we can easily reuse.) - Require kasan-vmalloc support to handle modules and anything else in vmalloc space. - KASAN needs to be able to validate all pointer accesses, but we can't instrument all kernel addresses - only linear map and vmalloc. On boot, set up a single page of read-only shadow that marks all iomap and vmemmap accesses as valid. - Document KASAN in powerpc docs. Background ---------- KASAN support on Book3S is a bit tricky to get right: - It would be good to support inline instrumentation so as to be able to catch stack issues that cannot be caught with outline mode. - Inline instrumentation requires a fixed offset. - Book3S runs code with translations off ("real mode") during boot, including a lot of generic device-tree parsing code which is used to determine MMU features. [ppc64 mm note: The kernel installs a linear mapping at effective address c000...-c008.... This is a one-to-one mapping with physical memory from 0000... onward. Because of how memory accesses work on powerpc 64-bit Book3S, a kernel pointer in the linear map accesses the same memory both with translations on (accessing as an 'effective address'), and with translations off (accessing as a 'real address'). This works in both guests and the hypervisor. For more details, see s5.7 of Book III of version 3 of the ISA, in particular the Storage Control Overview, s5.7.3, and s5.7.5 - noting that this KASAN implementation currently only supports Radix.] - Some code - most notably a lot of KVM code - also runs with translations off after boot. - Therefore any offset has to point to memory that is valid with translations on or off. One approach is just to give up on inline instrumentation. This way boot-time checks can be delayed until after the MMU is set is up, and we can just not instrument any code that runs with translations off after booting. Take this approach for now and require outline instrumentation. Previous attempts allowed inline instrumentation. However, they came with some unfortunate restrictions: only physically contiguous memory could be used and it had to be specified at compile time. Maybe we can do better in the future. Right now, the last 5 bits (0x1f) of the swap entry are used for the type and the bit before that (0x20) is used for _PAGE_SWP_SOFT_DIRTY. We cannot use 0x40, as that collides with _RPAGE_RSV1 -- contained in _PAGE_HPTEFLAGS. The next candidate would be _RPAGE_SW3 (0x200) -- which is used for _PAGE_SOFT_DIRTY for !swp ptes. So let's just use _PAGE_SOFT_DIRTY for _PAGE_SWP_SOFT_DIRTY (to make it easier to grasp) and use 0x20 now for _PAGE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE. The swap type is simply stored in bits 0x1f of the swap pte. Let's simplify by just getting rid of _PAGE_BIT_SWAP_TYPE. It's not like that we can simply change it: _PAGE_SWP_SOFT_DIRTY would suddenly fall into _RPAGE_RSV1, which isn't possible and would make the BUILD_BUG_ON(_PAGE_HPTEFLAGS & _PAGE_SWP_SOFT_DIRTY) angry. While at it, make it clearer which bit we're actually using for _PAGE_SWP_SOFT_DIRTY by just using the proper define and introduce and use SWP_TYPE_MASK. This is not the case for BAT 4 above. Fix kasan_init_region() by using block_size() function that is in book3s32/mmu.c. To be able to reuse it here, make it non static and change its name to bat_block_size() in order to avoid name conflict with block_size() defined in <linux/blkdev.h> Also reuse find_free_bat() to avoid an error message from setbat() when no BAT is available. And allocate memory outside of linear memory mapping to avoid wasting that precious space. Calling 'mfsr' to get the content of segment registers is heavy, in addition it requires clearing of the 'reserved' bits. In order to avoid this operation, save it in mm context and in thread struct. The saved sr0 is the one used by kernel, this means that on locking entry it can be used as is. For unlocking, the only thing to do is to clear SR_NX. This improves null_syscall selftest by 12 cycles, ie 4%. 2021-12-09powerpc/32s: Do kuep_lock() and kuep_unlock() in assemblyChristophe Leroy2-35/+76
When interrupt and syscall entries where converted to C, KUEP locking and unlocking was also converted. It improved performance by unrolling the loop, and allowed easily implementing boot time deactivation of KUEP. However, null_syscall selftest shows that KUEP is still heavy (361 cycles with KUEP, 212 cycles without). A way to improve more is to group 'mtsr's together, instead of repeating 'addi' + 'mtsr' several times. In order to do that, more registers need to be available. In C, GCC will always be able to provide the requested number of registers, but at the cost of saving some data on the stack, which is counter performant here. So let's do it in assembly, when we have full control of which register can be used. It also has the advantage of locking earlier and unlocking later and it helps GCC generating less tricky code. The only drawback is to make boot time deactivation less straight forward and require 'hand' instruction patching. Group 'mtsr's by 4. With this change, null_syscall selftest reports 336 cycles. Without the change it was 361 cycles, that's a 7% reduction.
