2024-02-23MIPS: Fallback CPU -march flag to ISA level if unsupportedJiaxun Yang1-13/+17
LLVM does not implement some of -march options. However those options are not mandatory for kernel to build for those CPUs. Fallback -march CFLAG to ISA level if unsupported by toolchain so we can get those kernel to build with LLVM. 2023-07-25Revert MIPS: Loongson: Fix build error when make modules_installMaciej W. Rozycki1-3/+7
Revert commit 531b3d1195d0 ("MIPS: Loongson: Fix build error when make modules_install"), which made `-march=loongson2e', `-march=loongson2f', and `-march=loongson3a' compilation options probed for even though GCC has supported them since 4.4.0, 4.4.0, and 4.6.0 respectively, which is below our current minimum requirement of 5.1, in an attempt to work around for the `cc-option' `make' function being undefined with `make' targets that do not use the compiler. The workaround has now been made obsolete, by querying the `need-compiler' variable instead so as to make sure the compiler isn't called for non-build targets. Verified with `fuloong2e_defconfig' and the `modules_install' target. Signed-off-by: Maciej W. Rozycki <macro@orcam.me.uk> Signed-off-by: Thomas Bogendoerfer <tsbogend@alpha.franken.de>
2023-07-25MIPS: Only fiddle with CHECKFLAGS if `need-compiler'Maciej W. Rozycki1-1/+1
We have originally guarded fiddling with CHECKFLAGS in our arch Makefile by checking for the CONFIG_MIPS variable, not set for targets such as `distclean', etc. that neither include `.config' nor use the compiler. Starting from commit 805b2e1d427a ("kbuild: include Makefile.compiler only when compiler is needed") we have had a generic `need-compiler' variable explicitly telling us if the compiler will be used and thus its capabilities need to be checked and expressed in the form of compilation flags. If this variable is not set, then `make' functions such as `cc-option' are undefined, causing all kinds of weirdness to happen if we expect specific results to be returned, most recently: cc1: error: '-mloongson-mmi' must be used with '-mhard-float' messages with configurations such as `fuloong2e_defconfig' and the `modules_install' target, which does include `.config' and yet does not use the compiler. Replace the check for CONFIG_MIPS with one for `need-compiler' instead, so as to prevent the compiler from being ever called for CHECKFLAGS when not needed. Reported-by: Guillaume Tucker <guillaume.tucker@collabora.com> Closes: https://lore.kernel.org/r/85031c0c-d981-031e-8a50-bc4fad2ddcd8@collabora.com/ Signed-off-by: Maciej W. 2023-07-25MIPS: Fix CONFIG_CPU_DADDI_WORKAROUNDS `modules_install' regressionMaciej W. Rozycki1-2/+2
Remove a build-time check for the presence of the GCC `-msym32' option. This option has been there since GCC 4.1.0, which is below the minimum required as at commit 805b2e1d427a ("kbuild: include Makefile.compiler only when compiler is needed"), when an error message: arch/mips/Makefile:306: *** CONFIG_CPU_DADDI_WORKAROUNDS unsupported without -msym32. Stop. started to trigger for the `modules_install' target with configurations such as `decstation_64_defconfig' that set CONFIG_CPU_DADDI_WORKAROUNDS, because said commit has made `cc-option-yn' an undefined function for non-build targets. 2023-07-03MIPS: Loongson: Fix build error when make modules_installHuacai Chen1-7/+3
After commit 0e96ea5c3eb5904e5dc2f ("MIPS: Loongson64: Clean up use of cc-ifversion") we get a build error when make modules_install: cc1: error: '-mloongson-mmi' must be used with '-mhard-float' The reason is when make modules_install, 'call cc-option' doesn't work in $(KBUILD_CFLAGS) of 'CHECKFLAGS'. Then there is no -mno-loongson-mmi applied and -march=loongson3a enable MMI instructions. To be detail, the error message comes from the CHECKFLAGS invocation of $(CC) but it has no impact on the final result of make modules_install, it is purely a cosmetic issue. The error occurs because cc-option is defined in scripts/Makefile.compiler, which is not included in Makefile when running 'make modules_install', as install targets are not supposed to require the compiler; see commit 805b2e1d427aab4b ("kbuild: include Makefile.compiler only when compiler is needed"). As a result, the call to check for '-mno-loongson-mmi' just never happens. Fix this by partially reverting to the old logic, use 'call cc-option' to conditionally apply -march=loongson3a and -march=mips64r2. By the way, Loongson-2E/2F is also broken in commit 13ceb48bc19c563e05f4 ("MIPS: Loongson2ef: Remove unnecessary {as,cc}-option calls") so fix it together. 2023-01-26MIPS: Always use -Wa,-msoft-float and eliminate GAS_HAS_SET_HARDFLOATNathan Chancellor1-10/+1
-Wa,-msoft-float is tested with as-option, which will be a problem for clang with an upcoming change to move as-option to use KBUILD_AFLAGS instead of KBUILD_CFLAGS due to a lack of '-mno-abicalls' in KBUILD_AFLAGS at the point that this check occurs; $(cflags-y) is added to KBUILD_AFLAGS towards the end of this file. clang: error: ignoring '-fno-PIE' option as it cannot be used with implicit usage of -mabicalls and the N64 ABI [-Werror,-Woption-ignored] This could be resolved by switching to a cc-option check but '$(cflags-y)' would need to be added so that '-mno-abicalls' is present for the test. However, this check is no longer necessary, as -msoft-float is supported by all supported assembler versions (GNU as 2.25+ and LLVM 11+). Eliminate GAS_HAS_SET_HARDFLOAT and all of its uses, inlining SET_HARDFLOAT where necessary. 2022-10-02kbuild: remove head-y syntaxMasahiro Yamada1-2/+0
Kbuild puts the objects listed in head-y at the head of vmlinux. Conventionally, we do this for head*.S, which contains the kernel entry point. A counter approach is to control the section order by the linker script. Actually, the code marked as __HEAD goes into the ".head.text" section, which is placed before the normal ".text" section. I do not know if both of them are needed. From the build system perspective, head-y is not mandatory. If you can achieve the proper code placement by the linker script only, it would be cleaner. I collected the current head-y objects into head-object-list.txt. It is a whitelist. My hope is it will be reduced in the long run. 2021-01-15MIPS: Support binutils configured with --enable-mips-fix-loongson3-llsc=yesAurelien Jarno1-0/+19
From version 2.35, binutils can be configured with --enable-mips-fix-loongson3-llsc=yes, which means it defaults to -mfix-loongson3-llsc. This breaks labels which might then point at the wrong instruction. The workaround to explicitly pass -mno-fix-loongson3-llsc has been added in Linux version 5.1, but is only enabled when building a Loongson 64 kernel. As vendors might use a common toolchain for building Loongson and non-Loongson kernels, just move that workaround to arch/mips/Makefile. At the same time update the comments to reflect the current status. 2020-11-13mips: boot: add support for self-extracting FIT images (vmlinuz.itb)Alexander Lobakin1-0/+1
Commit c3e2ee657418 ("MIPS: generic: Add support for zboot") added support for self-extracting images to Generic MIPS. However, the intended way to boot Generic MIPS kernels is using FIT Images and UHI boot protocol, but currently there's no way to make self-extracting FIT Image (only legacy uzImages). Add a target for this named "vmlinuz.itb", which will consist of vmlinuz.bin and selected DT blobs. It will allow to have the advantages of both UHI and self-extracting images. 2020-11-13mips: boot: clean up self-extracting targets scenariosAlexander Lobakin1-1/+1
1. All final targets like vmlinuz.{bin, ecoff, srec} etc. should reside in $(objtree)/arch/mips/boot, not in the root $(objtree) directory. The only file that should be left there is vmlinuz, similar to other architectures. 2. Add all the targets to $(targets) variable, so they'll be properly accounted by Kbuild. This also allows to remove redundant $(clean-files) (which were missing uzImage BTW). 3. Prefix all targets with $(obj)/$(objtree), depending on their locations. Misc: fix the identation of the 'STRIP' quiet message. 2020-05-22mips: Add MIPS Warrior P5600 supportSerge Semin1-0/+1
This is a MIPS32 Release 5 based IP core with XPA, EVA, dual/quad issue exec pipes, MMU with two-levels TLB, UCA, MSA, MDU core level features and system level features like up to six P5600 calculation cores, CM2 with L2 cache, IOCU/IOMMU (though might be unused depending on the system-specific IP core configuration), GIC, CPC, virtualisation module, eJTAG and PDtrace. As being MIPS32 Release 5 based core it provides all the features available by the CPU_MIPS32_R5 config, while adding a few more like UCA attribute support, availability of CPU-freq (by means of L2/CM clock ratio setting), EI/VI GIC modes detection at runtime. In addition to this if P5600 architecture is enabled modern GNU GCC provides a specific tuning for P5600 processors with respect to the classic MIPS32 Release 5. First of all branch-likely avoidance is activated only when the code is compiled with the speed optimization (avoidance is always enabled for the pure MIPS32 Release 5 architecture). Secondly the madd/msub avoidance is enabled since madd/msub utilization isn't profitable due to overhead of getting the result out of the HI/LO registers. Multiply-accumulate instructions are activated and utilized together with the necessary code reorder when multiply-add/multiply-subtract statements are met. Finally load/store bonding is activated by default. All of these optimizations may make the code relatively faster than if just MIP32 release 5 architecture was requested. 2020-05-22mips: Add MIPS Release 5 supportSerge Semin1-0/+2
There are five MIPS32/64 architecture releases currently available: from 1 to 6 except fourth one, which was intentionally skipped. Three of them can be called as major: 1st, 2nd and 6th, that not only have some system level alterations, but also introduced significant core/ISA level updates. The rest of the MIPS architecture releases are minor. Even though they don't have as much ISA/system/core level changes as the major ones with respect to the previous releases, they still provide a set of updates (I'd say they were intended to be the intermediate releases before a major one) that might be useful for the kernel and user-level code, when activated by the kernel or compiler. In particular the following features were introduced or ended up being available at/after MIPS32/64 Release 5 architecture: + the last release of the misaligned memory access instructions, + virtualisation - VZ ASE - is optional component of the arch, + SIMD - MSA ASE - is optional component of the arch, + DSP ASE is optional component of the arch, + CP0.Status.FR=1 for CP1.FIR.F64=1 (pure 64-bit FPU general registers) must be available if FPU is implemented, + CP1.FIR.Has2008 support is required so CP1.FCSR.{ABS2008,NAN2008} bits are available. + UFR/UNFR aliases to access CP0.Status.FR from user-space by means of ctc1/cfc1 instructions (enabled by CP0.Config5.UFR), + CP0.COnfig5.LLB=1 and eretnc instruction are implemented to without accidentally clearing LL-bit when returning from an interrupt, exception, or error trap, + XPA feature together with extended versions of CPx registers is introduced, which needs to have mfhc0/mthc0 instructions available. So due to these changes GNU GCC provides an extended instructions set support for MIPS32/64 Release 5 by default like eretnc/mfhc0/mthc0. Even though the architecture alteration isn't that big, it still worth to be taken into account by the kernel software. Finally we can't deny that some optimization/limitations might be found in future and implemented on some level in kernel or compiler. In this case having even intermediate MIPS architecture releases support would be more than useful. So the most of the changes provided by this commit can be split into either compile- or runtime configs related. The compile-time related changes are caused by adding the new CONFIG_CPU_MIPS32_R5/CONFIG_CPU_MIPSR5 configs and concern the code activating MIPSR2 or MIPSR6 already implemented features (like eretnc/LLbit, mthc0/mfhc0). In addition CPU_HAS_MSA can be now freely enabled for MIPS32/64 release 5 based platforms as this is done for CPU_MIPS32_R6 CPUs. The runtime changes concerns the features which are handled with respect to the MIPS ISA revision detected at run-time by means of CP0.Config.{AT,AR} bits. Alas these fields can be used to detect either r1 or r2 or r6 releases. But since we know which CPUs in fact support the R5 arch, we can manually set MIPS_CPU_ISA_M32R5/MIPS_CPU_ISA_M64R5 bit of c->isa_level and then use cpu_has_mips32r5/cpu_has_mips64r5 where it's appropriate. Since XPA/EVA provide too complex alterationss and to have them used with MIPS32 Release 2 charged kernels (for compatibility with current platform configs) they are left to be setup as a separate kernel configs. 2020-05-12MIPS: Unconditionally specify '-EB' or '-EL'Nathan Chancellor1-25/+0
This was all done to work around a GCC bug that has been fixed after 4.2. The kernel requires GCC 4.6 or newer so remove all of these hacks and just use the traditional flags. $ mips64-linux-gcc --version | head -n1 mips64-linux-gcc (GCC) 4.6.3 $ mips64-linux-gcc -EB -dM -E -C -x c /dev/null | grep MIPSE #define MIPSEB 1 #define __MIPSEB__ 1 #define _MIPSEB 1 #define __MIPSEB 1 $ mips64-linux-gcc -EL -dM -E -C -x c /dev/null | grep MIPSE #define __MIPSEL__ 1 #define MIPSEL 1 #define _MIPSEL 1 #define __MIPSEL 1 This is necessary when converting the MIPS VDSO to use $(LD) instead of $(CC) to link because the OUTPUT_FORMAT is defaulted to little endian and only flips to big endian when '-EB' is set on the command line. There is no issue currently because the compiler explicitly passes '-EB' or '-EL' to the linker regardless of whether or not it was provided by the user. Passing '-v' to VDSO_LDFLAGS shows: <gcc_prefix>/libexec/gcc/mips64-linux/9.3.0/collect2 ... -EB ... even though '-EB' is nowhere to be found in KBUILD_CFLAGS. The VDSO Makefile already supports getting '-EB' or '-EL' from KBUILD_CFLAGS through a filter directive but '-EB' or '-EL' is not always present. If we do not do this, we will see the following error when compiling for big endian: $ make -j$(nproc) ARCH=mips CROSS_COMPILE=mips64-linux- \ 64r2el_defconfig arch/mips/vdso/ ... mips64-linux-ld: arch/mips/vdso/elf.o: compiled for a big endian system and target is little endian mips64-linux-ld: arch/mips/vdso/elf.o: endianness incompatible with that of the selected emulation mips64-linux-ld: failed to merge target specific data of file arch/mips/vdso/elf.o ... 2019-11-17crypto: mips/chacha - wire up accelerated 32r2 code from ZincArd Biesheuvel1-1/+1
This integrates the accelerated MIPS 32r2 implementation of ChaCha into both the API and library interfaces of the kernel crypto stack. The significance of this is that, in addition to becoming available as an accelerated library implementation, it can also be used by existing crypto API code such as Adiantum (for block encryption on ultra low performance cores) or IPsec using chacha20poly1305. These are use cases that have already opted into using the abstract crypto API. In order to support Adiantum, the core assembler routine has been adapted to take the round count as a function argument rather than hardcoding it to 20. When Loongson3 LL/SC errata workarounds are enabled (ie. CONFIG_CPU_LOONGSON3_WORKAROUNDS=y) run a tool to scan through the compiled kernel & ensure that the workaround is applied correctly. That is, ensure that: - Every LL or LLD instruction is preceded by a sync instruction. - Any branches from within an LL/SC loop to outside of that loop target a sync instruction. Reasoning for these conditions can be found by reading the comment above the definition of __SYNC_loongson3_war in arch/mips/include/asm/sync.h.
