2011-03-25m68k: merge m68k and m68knommu arch directoriesGreg Ungerer1-844/+0
There is a lot of common code that could be shared between the m68k and m68knommu arch branches. It makes sense to merge the two branches into a single directory structure so that we can more easily share that common code. This is a brute force merge, based on a script from Stephen King <sfking@fdwdc.com>, which was originally written by Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>. > The script was inspired by the script Sam Ravnborg used to merge the > includes from m68knommu. For those files common to both arches but > differing in content, the m68k version of the file is renamed to > <file>_mm.<ext> and the m68knommu version of the file is moved into the > corresponding m68k directory and renamed <file>_no.<ext> and a small > wrapper file <file>.<ext> is used to select between the two version. Files > that are common to both but don't differ are removed from the m68knommu > tree and files and directories that are unique to the m68knommu tree are > moved to the m68k tree. Finally, the arch/m68knommu tree is removed. > > To select between the the versions of the files, the wrapper uses > > #ifdef CONFIG_MMU > #include <file>_mm.<ext> > #else > #include <file>_no.<ext> > #endif On top of this file merge I have done a simplistic merge of m68k and m68knommu Kconfig, which primarily attempts to keep existing options and menus in place. Other than a handful of options being moved it produces identical .config outputs on m68k and m68knommu targets I tested it on. With this in place there is now quite a bit of scope for merge cleanups in future patches. Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.org>

2011-03-24bitops: introduce CONFIG_GENERIC_FIND_BIT_LEAkinobu Mita1-0/+4
This introduces CONFIG_GENERIC_FIND_BIT_LE to tell whether to use generic implementation of find_*_bit_le() in lib/find_next_bit.c or not. For now we select CONFIG_GENERIC_FIND_BIT_LE for all architectures which enable CONFIG_GENERIC_FIND_NEXT_BIT. But m68knommu wants to define own faster find_next_zero_bit_le() and continues using generic find_next_{,zero_}bit(). 2011-03-15m68knommu: remove ColdFire CLOCK_DIV config optionGreg Ungerer1-11/+0
The reality is that you do not need the abiltity to configure the clock divider for ColdFire CPUs. It is a fixed ratio on any given ColdFire family member. It is not the same for all ColdFire parts, but it is always the same in a model range. So hard define the divider for each supported ColdFire CPU type and remove the Kconfig option. 2011-03-15m68knommu: make ColdFire internal peripheral region configurableGreg Ungerer1-0/+40
Most ColdFire CPUs have an internal peripheral set that can be mapped at a user selectable address. Different ColdFire parts either use an MBAR register of an IPSBAR register to map the peripheral region. Most boards use the Freescale default mappings - but not all. Make the setting of the MBAR or IPSBAR register configurable. And only make the selection available on the appropriate ColdFire CPU types. Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.org>

2010-10-21m68knommu: add basic mmu-less m548x supportPhilippe De Muyter1-1/+6
Add a very basic mmu-less support for coldfire m548x family. This is perhaps also valid for m547x family. The port comprises the serial, tick timer and reboot support. The gpio part compiles but is empty. This gives a functional albeit limited linux for the m548x coldfire family. This has been tested on a Freescale M548xEVB Lite board with a M5484 processor and the default dbug monitor. 2010-10-21m68knommu: stop using __do_IRQGreg Ungerer1-0/+4
The use of __do_IRQ is deprecated, so lets stop using it. 2009-12-04m68knommu: add uboot commandline argument passing supportLennart Sorensen1-0/+7
This patch adds m68knommu support for getting the kernel command line arguments from uboot, including the passing of an initrd image from uboot. We use this on a 5270/5271 based board, and have used it on the 5271evb development board. It is based on a patch found in the linux-2.6-denx git tree, although that tree seems to have had lots of other changes since which are not in the main Linus kernel. I believe this will work on all coldfires, although other m68knommu might be missing the _init_sp stuff in head.S as far as I can tell. I only have the coldfire to test on. 2008-10-20container freezer: implement freezer cgroup subsystemMatt Helsley1-0/+2
This patch implements a new freezer subsystem in the control groups framework. It provides a way to stop and resume execution of all tasks in a cgroup by writing in the cgroup filesystem. The freezer subsystem in the container filesystem defines a file named freezer.state. Writing "FROZEN" to the state file will freeze all tasks in the cgroup. Subsequently writing "RUNNING" will unfreeze the tasks in the cgroup. Reading will return the current state. * Examples of usage : # mkdir /containers/freezer # mount -t cgroup -ofreezer freezer /containers # mkdir /containers/0 # echo $some_pid > /containers/0/tasks to get status of the freezer subsystem : # cat /containers/0/freezer.state RUNNING to freeze all tasks in the container : # echo FROZEN > /containers/0/freezer.state # cat /containers/0/freezer.state FREEZING # cat /containers/0/freezer.state FROZEN to unfreeze all tasks in the container : # echo RUNNING > /containers/0/freezer.state # cat /containers/0/freezer.state RUNNING This is the basic mechanism which should do the right thing for user space task in a simple scenario. It's important to note that freezing can be incomplete. In that case we return EBUSY. This means that some tasks in the cgroup are busy doing something that prevents us from completely freezing the cgroup at this time. After EBUSY, the cgroup will remain partially frozen -- reflected by freezer.state reporting "FREEZING" when read. The state will remain "FREEZING" until one of these things happens: 1) Userspace cancels the freezing operation by writing "RUNNING" to the freezer.state file 2) Userspace retries the freezing operation by writing "FROZEN" to the freezer.state file (writing "FREEZING" is not legal and returns EIO) 3) The tasks that blocked the cgroup from entering the "FROZEN" state disappear from the cgroup's set of tasks. 2008-02-08avoid overflows in kernel/time.cH. Peter Anvin1-0/+5
When the conversion factor between jiffies and milli- or microseconds is not a single multiply or divide, as for the case of HZ == 300, we currently do a multiply followed by a divide. The intervening result, however, is subject to overflows, especially since the fraction is not simplified (for HZ == 300, we multiply by 300 and divide by 1000). This is exposed to the user when passing a large timeout to poll(), for example. This patch replaces the multiply-divide with a reciprocal multiplication on 32-bit platforms. When the input is an unsigned long, there is no portable way to do this on 64-bit platforms there is no portable way to do this since it requires a 128-bit intermediate result (which gcc does support on 64-bit platforms but may generate libgcc calls, e.g. on 64-bit s390), but since the output is a 32-bit integer in the cases affected, just simplify the multiply-divide (*3/10 instead of *300/1000). The reciprocal multiply used can have off-by-one errors in the upper half of the valid output range. This could be avoided at the expense of having to deal with a potential 65-bit intermediate result. Since the intent is to avoid overflow problems and most of the other time conversions are only semiexact, the off-by-one errors were considered an acceptable tradeoff. At Ralf Baechle's suggestion, this version uses a Perl script to compute the necessary constants. We already have dependencies on Perl for kernel compiles. This does, however, require the Perl module Math::BigInt, which is included in the standard Perl distribution starting with version 5.8.0. In order to support older versions of Perl, include a table of canned constants in the script itself, and structure the script so that Math::BigInt isn't required if pulling values from said table. Running the script requires that the HZ value is available from the Makefile. Thus, this patch also adds the Kconfig variable CONFIG_HZ to the architectures which didn't already have it (alpha, cris, frv, h8300, m32r, m68k, m68knommu, sparc, v850, and xtensa.) It does *not* touch the sh or sh64 architectures, since Paul Mundt has dealt with those separately in the sh tree. Signed-off-by: H. 2007-05-17Slab allocators: define common size limitationsChristoph Lameter1-8/+0
Currently we have a maze of configuration variables that determine the maximum slab size. Worst of all it seems to vary between SLAB and SLUB. So define a common maximum size for kmalloc. For conveniences sake we use the maximum size ever supported which is 32 MB. We limit the maximum size to a lower limit if MAX_ORDER does not allow such large allocations. For many architectures this patch will have the effect of adding large kmalloc sizes. x86_64 adds 5 new kmalloc sizes. So a small amount of memory will be needed for these caches (contemporary SLAB has dynamically sizeable node and cpu structure so the waste is less than in the past) Most architectures will then be able to allocate object with sizes up to MAX_ORDER. We have had repeated breakage (in fact whenever we doubled the number of supported processors) on IA64 because one or the other struct grew beyond what the slab allocators supported. This will avoid future issues and f.e. avoid fixes for 2k and 4k cpu support. CONFIG_LARGE_ALLOCS is no longer necessary so drop it. It fixes sparc64 with SLAB. 2007-02-11[PATCH] sort the devres mess outAl Viro1-0/+3
* Split the implementation-agnostic stuff in separate files. * Make sure that targets using non-default request_irq() pull kernel/irq/devres.o * Introduce new symbols (HAS_IOPORT and HAS_IOMEM) defaulting to positive; allow architectures to turn them off (we needed these symbols anyway for dependencies of quite a few drivers). * protect the ioport-related parts of lib/devres.o with CONFIG_HAS_IOPORT. 2007-02-11[PATCH] optional ZONE_DMA: introduce CONFIG_ZONE_DMAChristoph Lameter1-0/+4
This patch simply defines CONFIG_ZONE_DMA for all arches. We later do special things with CONFIG_ZONE_DMA after the VM and an arch are prepared to work without ZONE_DMA. CONFIG_ZONE_DMA can be defined in two ways depending on how an architecture handles ISA DMA. First if CONFIG_GENERIC_ISA_DMA is set by the arch then we know that the arch needs ZONE_DMA because ISA DMA devices are supported. We can catch this in mm/Kconfig and do not need to modify arch code. Second, arches may use ZONE_DMA in an unknown way. We set CONFIG_ZONE_DMA for all arches that do not set CONFIG_GENERIC_ISA_DMA in order to insure backwards compatibility. The arches may later undefine ZONE_DMA if their arch code has been verified to not depend on ZONE_DMA. 2006-12-08[PATCH] LOG2: Implement a general integer log2 facility in the kernelDavid Howells1-0/+8
This facility provides three entry points: ilog2() Log base 2 of unsigned long ilog2_u32() Log base 2 of u32 ilog2_u64() Log base 2 of u64 These facilities can either be used inside functions on dynamic data: int do_something(long q) { ...; y = ilog2(x) ...; } Or can be used to statically initialise global variables with constant values: unsigned n = ilog2(27); When performing static initialisation, the compiler will report "error: initializer element is not constant" if asked to take a log of zero or of something not reducible to a constant. They treat negative numbers as unsigned. When not dealing with a constant, they fall back to using fls() which permits them to use arch-specific log calculation instructions - such as BSR on x86/x86_64 or SCAN on FRV - if available.
