2022-06-09irqchip/gic-v3: Refactor ISB + EOIR at ack timeMark Rutland1-6/+0
[ Upstream commit 6efb50923771f392122f5ce69dfc43b08f16e449 ] There are cases where a context synchronization event is necessary between an IRQ being raised and being handled, and there are races such that we cannot rely upon the exception entry being subsequent to the interrupt being raised. To fix this, we place an ISB between a read of IAR and the subsequent invocation of an IRQ handler. When EOI mode 1 is in use, we need to EOI an interrupt prior to invoking its handler, and we have a write to EOIR for this. As this write to EOIR requires an ISB, and this is provided by the gic_write_eoir() helper, we omit the usual ISB in this case, with the logic being: | if (static_branch_likely(&supports_deactivate_key)) | gic_write_eoir(irqnr); | else | isb(); This is somewhat opaque, and it would be a little clearer if there were an unconditional ISB, with only the write to EOIR being conditional, e.g. | if (static_branch_likely(&supports_deactivate_key)) | write_gicreg(irqnr, ICC_EOIR1_EL1); | | isb(); This patch rewrites the code that way, with this logic factored into a new helper function with comments explaining what the ISB is for, as were originally laid out in commit: 39a06b67c2c1256b ("irqchip/gic: Ensure we have an ISB between ack and ->handle_irq") Note that since then, we removed the IAR polling in commit: 342677d70ab92142 ("irqchip/gic-v3: Remove acknowledge loop") ... which removed one of the two race conditions. For consistency, other portions of the driver are made to manipulate EOIR using write_gicreg() and explcit ISBs, and the gic_write_eoir() helper function is removed. There should be no functional change as a result of this patch. 2022-06-09arm64: stackleak: fix current_top_of_stack()Mark Rutland1-6/+4
[ Upstream commit e85094c31ddb794ac41c299a5a7a68243148f829 ] Due to some historical confusion, arm64's current_top_of_stack() isn't what the stackleak code expects. This could in theory result in a number of problems, and practically results in an unnecessary performance hit. We can avoid this by aligning the arm64 implementation with the x86 implementation. The arm64 implementation of current_top_of_stack() was added specifically for stackleak in commit: 0b3e336601b82c6a ("arm64: Add support for STACKLEAK gcc plugin") This was intended to be equivalent to the x86 implementation, but the implementation, semantics, and performance characteristics differ wildly: * On x86, current_top_of_stack() returns the top of the current task's task stack, regardless of which stack is in active use. The implementation accesses a percpu variable which the x86 entry code maintains, and returns the location immediately above the pt_regs on the task stack (above which x86 has some padding). * On arm64 current_top_of_stack() returns the top of the stack in active use (i.e. the one which is currently being used). The implementation checks the SP against a number of potentially-accessible stacks, and will BUG() if no stack is found. The core stackleak_erase() code determines the upper bound of stack to erase with: | if (on_thread_stack()) | boundary = current_stack_pointer; | else | boundary = current_top_of_stack(); On arm64 stackleak_erase() is always called on a task stack, and on_thread_stack() should always be true. On x86, stackleak_erase() is mostly called on a trampoline stack, and is sometimes called on a task stack. Currently, this results in a lot of unnecessary code being generated for arm64 for the impossible !on_thread_stack() case. Some of this is inlined, bloating stackleak_erase(), while portions of this are left out-of-line and permitted to be instrumented (which would be a functional problem if that code were reachable). As a first step towards improving this, this patch aligns arm64's implementation of current_top_of_stack() with x86's, always returning the top of the current task's stack. With GCC 11.1.0 this results in the bulk of the unnecessary code being removed, including all of the out-of-line instrumentable code. While I don't believe there's a functional problem in practice I've marked this as a fix since the semantic was clearly wrong, the fix itself is simple, and other code might rely upon this in future. The memory map may be present for NOMAP memory regions, but they won't be mapped in the linear mapping. Accessing such regions via __va() when they are memremap()'ed will cause a crash. 2022-04-20KVM: arm64: mixed-width check should be skipped for uninitialized vCPUsReiji Watanabe2-8/+29
[ Upstream commit 26bf74bd9f6ff0f1545b4f0c92a37c232d076014 ] KVM allows userspace to configure either all EL1 32bit or 64bit vCPUs for a guest. At vCPU reset, vcpu_allowed_register_width() checks if the vcpu's register width is consistent with all other vCPUs'. Since the checking is done even against vCPUs that are not initialized (KVM_ARM_VCPU_INIT has not been done) yet, the uninitialized vCPUs are erroneously treated as 64bit vCPU, which causes the function to incorrectly detect a mixed-width VM. Introduce KVM_ARCH_FLAG_EL1_32BIT and KVM_ARCH_FLAG_REG_WIDTH_CONFIGURED bits for kvm->arch.flags. A value of the EL1_32BIT bit indicates that the guest needs to be configured with all 32bit or 64bit vCPUs, and a value of the REG_WIDTH_CONFIGURED bit indicates if a value of the EL1_32BIT bit is valid (already set up). Values in those bits are set at the first KVM_ARM_VCPU_INIT for the guest based on KVM_ARM_VCPU_EL1_32BIT configuration for the vCPU. Check vcpu's register width against those new bits at the vcpu's KVM_ARM_VCPU_INIT (instead of against other vCPUs' register width). 2022-04-13KVM: arm64: Do not change the PMU event filter after a VCPU has runMarc Zyngier1-0/+1
[ Upstream commit 5177fe91e4cf78a659aada2c9cf712db4d788481 ] Userspace can specify which events a guest is allowed to use with the KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_FILTER attribute. The list of allowed events can be identified by a guest from reading the PMCEID{0,1}_EL0 registers. Changing the PMU event filter after a VCPU has run can cause reads of the registers performed before the filter is changed to return different values than reads performed with the new event filter in place. The architecture defines the two registers as read-only, and this behaviour contradicts that. Keep track when the first VCPU has run and deny changes to the PMU event filter to prevent this from happening. 2022-04-08arm64: module: remove (NOLOAD) from linker scriptFangrui Song1-3/+3
[ Upstream commit 4013e26670c590944abdab56c4fa797527b74325 ] On ELF, (NOLOAD) sets the section type to SHT_NOBITS[1]. It is conceptually inappropriate for .plt and .text.* sections which are always SHT_PROGBITS. In GNU ld, if PLT entries are needed, .plt will be SHT_PROGBITS anyway and (NOLOAD) will be essentially ignored. In ld.lld, since https://reviews.llvm.org/D118840 ("[ELF] Support (TYPE=<value>) to customize the output section type"), ld.lld will report a `section type mismatch` error. Just remove (NOLOAD) to fix the error. 2022-04-08arm64: prevent instrumentation of bp hardening callbacksMark Rutland1-1/+2
[ Upstream commit 614c0b9fee711dd89b1dd65c88ba83612a373fdc ] We may call arm64_apply_bp_hardening() early during entry (e.g. in el0_ia()) before it is safe to run instrumented code. Unfortunately this may result in running instrumented code in two cases: * The hardening callbacks called by arm64_apply_bp_hardening() are not marked as `noinstr`, and have been observed to be instrumented when compiled with either GCC or LLVM. * Since arm64_apply_bp_hardening() itself is only marked as `inline` rather than `__always_inline`, it is possible that the compiler decides to place it out-of-line, whereupon it may be instrumented. Neither of these are safe early during entry sequences. This patch avoids the unsafe instrumentation by marking arm64_apply_bp_hardening() as `__always_inline` and by marking the hardening functions as `noinstr`. This avoids the potential for instrumentation, and causes clang to consistently generate the function as with the defconfig sample. Note: in the defconfig compilation, when CONFIG_SVE=y, x30 is spilled to the stack without being placed in a frame record, which will result in a missing entry if call_hvc_arch_workaround_1() is backtraced. Similar is true of qcom_link_stack_sanitisation(), where inline asm spills the LR to a GPR prior to corrupting it. This is not a significant issue presently as we will only backtrace here if an exception is taken, and in such cases we may omit entries for other reasons today. When building arm64 defconfig + CONFIG_LTO_CLANG_{FULL,THIN}=y after commit 558c303c9734 ("arm64: Mitigate spectre style branch history side channels"), the following error occurs: <instantiation>:4:2: error: invalid fixup for movz/movk instruction mov w0, #ARM_SMCCC_ARCH_WORKAROUND_3 ^ Marc figured out that moving "#include <linux/init.h>" in include/linux/arm-smccc.h into a !__ASSEMBLY__ block resolves it. The full include chain with CONFIG_LTO=y from include/linux/arm-smccc.h: include/linux/init.h include/linux/compiler.h arch/arm64/include/asm/rwonce.h arch/arm64/include/asm/alternative-macros.h arch/arm64/include/asm/assembler.h The asm/alternative-macros.h include in asm/rwonce.h only happens when CONFIG_LTO is set, which ultimately casues asm/assembler.h to be included before the definition of ARM_SMCCC_ARCH_WORKAROUND_3. As a result, the preprocessor does not expand ARM_SMCCC_ARCH_WORKAROUND_3 in __mitigate_spectre_bhb_fw, which results in the error above. Avoid this problem by just avoiding the CONFIG_LTO=y __READ_ONCE() block in asm/rwonce.h with assembly files, as nothing in that block is useful to assembly files, which allows ARM_SMCCC_ARCH_WORKAROUND_3 to be properly expanded with CONFIG_LTO=y builds. Commit 18107f8a2df6 ("arm64: Support execute-only permissions with Enhanced PAN") re-introduced execute-only permissions when EPAN is available. When EPAN is not available, arch_filter_pgprot() is supposed to change a PAGE_EXECONLY permission into PAGE_READONLY_EXEC. However, if BTI or MTE are present, such check does not detect the execute-only pgprot in the presence of PTE_GP (BTI) or MT_NORMAL_TAGGED (MTE), allowing the user to request PROT_EXEC with PROT_BTI or PROT_MTE. Remove the arch_filter_pgprot() function, change the default VM_EXEC permissions to PAGE_READONLY_EXEC and update the protection_map[] array at core_initcall() if EPAN is detected. Future CPUs may implement a clearbhb instruction that is sufficient to mitigate SpectreBHB. CPUs that implement this instruction, but not CSV2.3 must be affected by Spectre-BHB. Add support to use this instruction as the BHB mitigation on CPUs that support it. The instruction is in the hint space, so it will be treated by a NOP as older CPUs. 2022-02-24arm64: Mitigate spectre style branch history side channelsJames Morse6-2/+46
Speculation attacks against some high-performance processors can make use of branch history to influence future speculation. When taking an exception from user-space, a sequence of branches or a firmware call overwrites or invalidates the branch history. The sequence of branches is added to the vectors, and should appear before the first indirect branch. For systems using KPTI the sequence is added to the kpti trampoline where it has a free register as the exit from the trampoline is via a 'ret'. For systems not using KPTI, the same register tricks are used to free up a register in the vectors. For the firmware call, arch-workaround-3 clobbers 4 registers, so there is no choice but to save them to the EL1 stack. This only happens for entry from EL0, so if we take an exception due to the stack access, it will not become re-entrant. For KVM, the existing branch-predictor-hardening vectors are used. When a spectre version of these vectors is in use, the firmware call is sufficient to mitigate against Spectre-BHB. The Spectre-BHB workaround adds a firmware call to the vectors. This is needed on some CPUs, but not others. To avoid the unaffected CPU in a big/little pair from making the firmware call, create per cpu vectors. The per-cpu vectors only apply when returning from EL0. Systems using KPTI can use the canonical 'full-fat' vectors directly at EL1, the trampoline exit code will switch to this_cpu_vector on exit to EL0. Systems not using KPTI should always use this_cpu_vector. this_cpu_vector will point at a vector in tramp_vecs or __bp_harden_el1_vectors, depending on whether KPTI is in use. Some CPUs affected by Spectre-BHB need a sequence of branches, or a firmware call to be run before any indirect branch. This needs to go in the vectors. No CPU needs both. While this can be patched in, it would run on all CPUs as there is a single set of vectors. If only one part of a big/little combination is affected, the unaffected CPUs have to run the mitigation too. Create extra vectors that include the sequence. Subsequent patches will allow affected CPUs to select this set of vectors. Later patches will modify the loop count to match what the CPU requires. The trampoline code has a data page that holds the address of the vectors, which is unmapped when running in user-space. This ensures that with CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_BASE, the randomised address of the kernel can't be discovered until after the kernel has been mapped. If the trampoline text page is extended to include multiple sets of vectors, it will be larger than a single page, making it tricky to find the data page without knowing the size of the trampoline text pages, which will vary with PAGE_SIZE. Move the data page to appear before the text page. This allows the data page to be found without knowing the size of the trampoline text pages. 'tramp_vectors' is used to refer to the beginning of the .entry.tramp.text section, do that explicitly. 2022-02-15KVM: arm64: Allow indirect vectors to be used without SPECTRE_V3AJames Morse1-0/+5
CPUs vulnerable to Spectre-BHB either need to make an SMC-CC firmware call from the vectors, or run a sequence of branches. This gets added to the hyp vectors. If there is no support for arch-workaround-1 in firmware, the indirect vector will be used. kvm_init_vector_slots() only initialises the two indirect slots if the platform is vulnerable to Spectre-v3a. pKVM's hyp_map_vectors() only initialises __hyp_bp_vect_base if the platform is vulnerable to Spectre-v3a. As there are about to more users of the indirect vectors, ensure their entries in hyp_spectre_vector_selector[] are always initialised, and __hyp_bp_vect_base defaults to the regular VA mapping. The Spectre-v3a check is moved to a helper kvm_system_needs_idmapped_vectors(), and merged with the code that creates the hyp mappings.
