2023-12-11fs: convert error_remove_page to error_remove_folioMatthew Wilcox (Oracle)2-5/+5
There were already assertions that we were not passing a tail page to error_remove_page(), so make the compiler enforce that by converting everything to pass and use a folio. 2023-12-11zram: split memory-tracking and ac-time trackingSergey Senozhatsky1-1/+1
ZRAM_MEMORY_TRACKING enables two features: - per-entry ac-time tracking - debugfs interface The latter one is the reason why memory-tracking depends on DEBUG_FS, while the former one is used far beyond debugging these days. Namely ac-time is used for fine grained writeback of idle entries (pages). Move ac-time tracking under its own config option so that it can be enabled (along with writeback) on systems without DEBUG_FS. 2023-12-11Documentation/mm: drop pte_bad() descriptions from arch page table helpersAnshuman Khandual1-2/+0

2023-12-11fs/proc/task_mmu: report SOFT_DIRTY bits through the PAGEMAP_SCAN ioctlAndrei Vagin1-0/+1
The PAGEMAP_SCAN ioctl returns information regarding page table entries. It is more efficient compared to reading pagemap files. CRIU can start to utilize this ioctl, but it needs info about soft-dirty bits to track memory changes. We are aware of a new method for tracking memory changes implemented in the PAGEMAP_SCAN ioctl. For CRIU, the primary advantage of this method is its usability by unprivileged users. However, it is not feasible to transparently replace the soft-dirty tracker with the new one. The main problem here is userfault descriptors that have to be preserved between pre-dump iterations. It means criu continues supporting the soft-dirty method to avoid breakage for current users. The new method will be implemented as a separate feature. 2023-12-05mm/slab, docs: switch mm-api docs generation from slab.c to slub.cVlastimil Babka1-1/+1
The SLAB implementation is going to be removed, and mm-api.rst currently uses mm/slab.c to obtain kerneldocs for some API functions. Switch it to mm/slub.c and move the relevant kerneldocs of exported functions from one to the other. The rest of kerneldocs in slab.c is for static SLAB implementation-specific functions that don't have counterparts in slub.c and thus can be simply removed with the implementation. 2023-12-01locking/mutex: Document that mutex_unlock() is non-atomicJann Horn1-0/+6
I have seen several cases of attempts to use mutex_unlock() to release an object such that the object can then be freed by another task. This is not safe because mutex_unlock(), in the MUTEX_FLAG_WAITERS && !MUTEX_FLAG_HANDOFF case, accesses the mutex structure after having marked it as unlocked; so mutex_unlock() requires its caller to ensure that the mutex stays alive until mutex_unlock() returns. If MUTEX_FLAG_WAITERS is set and there are real waiters, those waiters have to keep the mutex alive, but we could have a spurious MUTEX_FLAG_WAITERS left if an interruptible/killable waiter bailed between the points where __mutex_unlock_slowpath() did the cmpxchg reading the flags and where it acquired the wait_lock. ( With spinlocks, that kind of code pattern is allowed and, from what I remember, used in several places in the kernel. ) Document this, such a semantic difference between mutexes and spinlocks is fairly unintuitive. 2023-11-28cgroup/cpuset: Expose cpuset.cpus.isolatedWaiman Long1-0/+7
The root-only cpuset.cpus.isolated control file shows the current set of isolated CPUs in isolated partitions. This control file is currently exposed only with the cgroup_debug boot command line option which also adds the ".__DEBUG__." prefix. This is actually a useful control file if users want to find out which CPUs are currently in an isolated state by the cpuset controller. Remove CFTYPE_DEBUG flag for this control file and make it available by default without any prefix. The test_cpuset_prs.sh test script and the cgroup-v2.rst documentation file are also updated accordingly. 2023-11-22leds: class: Don't expose color sysfs entryTakashi Iwai1-9/+0
The commit c7d80059b086 ("leds: class: Store the color index in struct led_classdev") introduced a new sysfs entry "color" that is commonly created for the led classdev. Unfortunately, this conflicts with the "color" sysfs entry of already existing drivers such as Logitech HID or System76 ACPI drivers. The driver probe fails due to the conflict, hence it leads to a severe regression with the missing keyboard, for example. This patch reverts partially the change in the commit above for removing the led class color sysfs entries again for addressing the regressions. The newly introduced led_classdev.color field is kept as it's already used by other driver.
