2009-12-14x86: Remove usedac in feature-removal-schedule.txtFUJITA Tomonori1-7/+0
The reason of removal, "replaced by allowdac and no dac combination" is incorrect. There is no way to do the same thing with "allowdac" and "nodac" combination. The usedac option enables us to stop via_no_dac() setting forbid_dac to 1. That is, someone who uses VIA bridges can use DAC with this option even if some of VIA bridges seem to be broken about DAC. 2009-12-09hwmon: (adt7475) Add support for the ADT7473Jean Delvare1-0/+7
Add support for the ADT7473 to the adt7475 driver, and mark the adt7473 driver for removal. The ADT7473 and ADT7475 chips are almost the same chip and essentially compatible, so there's no point in having separate drivers for them. 2009-09-09wireless: mark prism54 as deprecated and mark for removalLuis R. Rodriguez1-0/+29
The preferred module is p54pci which also supports FullMAC PCI / Cardbus devices. We schedule removal for 2.6.34. Reason to remove this is no one really is testing prism54 anymore, and while it works p54pci provides support for the same hardware. It should be noted I have been told some FullMAC devices may not have worked with the SoftMAC driver but to date we have yet to recieve a single bug report regarding this. 2009-08-10sound: make OSS device number claiming optional and schedule its removalTejun Heo1-0/+24
If any OSS support is enabled, regardless of built-in or module, sound_core claims full OSS major number (that is, the old 0-255 region) to trap open attempts and request sound modules using custom module aliases. This feature is redundant as chrdev already has such mechanism. This preemptive claiming prevents alternative OSS implementation. The custom module aliases are scheduled to be removed and the previous patch made soundcore emit the standard chrdev aliases too to help transition. This patch schedule the feature for removal in a year and makes it optional so that developers and distros can try new things in the meantime without rebuilding the kernel. The pre-claiming can be turned off by using SOUND_OSS_CORE_PRECLAIM and/or kernel parameter soundcore.preclaim_oss. As this allows sound minors to be individually grabbed by other users, this patch updates sound_insert_unit() such that if registering individual device region fails, it tries the next available slot. For details on removal plan, please read the entry added by this patch in feature-removal-schedule.txt . 2009-06-03rfkill: create useful userspace interfaceJohannes Berg1-0/+7
The new code added by this patch will make rfkill create a misc character device /dev/rfkill that userspace can use to control rfkill soft blocks and get status of devices as well as events when the status changes. Using it is very simple -- when you open it you can read a number of times to get the initial state, and every further read blocks (you can poll) on getting the next event from the kernel. The same structure you read is also used when writing to it to change the soft block of a given device, all devices of a given type, or all devices. This also makes CONFIG_RFKILL_INPUT selectable again in order to be able to test without it present since its functionality can now be replaced by userspace entirely and distros and users may not want the input part of rfkill interfering with their userspace code. We will also write a userspace daemon to handle all that and consequently add the input code to the feature removal schedule. In order to have rfkilld support both kernels with and without CONFIG_RFKILL_INPUT (or new kernels after its eventual removal) we also add an ioctl (that only exists if rfkill-input is present) to disable rfkill-input. It is not very efficient, but at least gives the correct behaviour in all cases. 2009-03-30V4L/DVB (10870a): remove all references for video_decoder.hMauro Carvalho Chehab1-4/+4
changeset 04934e44e3784a1b969582e2d59afcec278470c6 removed the last implementation that were still using the V4L1 obsoleted header. Now, video_decoder.h is not used anymore by any driver. Let's remove it and all references for it in Kernel. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2009-03-30HID: remove compat stuffJiri Slaby1-7/+0
This removal was scheduled and there is no problem with later distros to adapt for the new bus, thanks to aliases. module-init-tools map files are deprecated nowadays, so that the patch which introduced hid ones into the m-i-t won't be accepted and hence there is no reason for leaving compat stuff in. 2009-03-28selinux: Remove the "compat_net" compatibility codePaul Moore1-11/+0
The SELinux "compat_net" is marked as deprecated, the time has come to finally remove it from the kernel. Further code simplifications are likely in the future, but this patch was intended to be a simple, straight-up removal of the compat_net code. 2009-03-28cfg80211: make regdom module parameter available oustide of OLD_REGLuis R. Rodriguez1-4/+26
It seems a few users are using this module parameter although its not recommended. People are finding it useful despite there being utilities for setting this in userspace. I'm not aware of any distribution using this though. Until userspace and distributions catch up with a default userspace automatic replacement (GeoClue integration would be nirvana) we copy the ieee80211_regdom module parameter from OLD_REG to the new reg code to help these users migrate. Users who are using the non-valid ISO / IEC 3166 alpha "EU" in their ieee80211_regdom module parameter and migrate to non-OLD_REG enabled system will world roam. This also schedules removal of this same ieee80211_regdom module parameter circa March 2010. Hope is by then nirvana is reached and users will abandoned the module parameter completely.
