   Mainly prepararatory work for ongoing development but it does reduce
   stack usage and is an improvement.

 - "mm, swap: swap table phase III: remove swap_map" (Kairui Song)

   Offers memory savings by removing the static swap_map. It also yields
   some CPU savings and implements several cleanups.

 - "mm: memfd_luo: preserve file seals" (Pratyush Yadav)

   File seal preservation to LUO's memfd code

 - "mm: zswap: add per-memcg stat for incompressible pages" (Jiayuan
   Chen)

   Additional userspace stats reportng to zswap

 - "arch, mm: consolidate empty_zero_page" (Mike Rapoport)

   Some cleanups for our handling of ZERO_PAGE() and zero_pfn

 - "mm/kmemleak: Improve scan_should_stop() implementation" (Zhongqiu
   Han)

   A robustness improvement and some cleanups in the kmemleak code

   Expand the mmap_prepare functionality, which is intended to replace
   the deprecated f_op-&gt;mmap hook which has been the source of bugs and
   security issues for some time. Cleanups, documentation, extension of
   mmap_prepare into filesystem drivers

 - "mm/huge_memory: refactor zap_huge_pmd()" (Lorenzo Stoakes)

<title>mm: rework compound_head() for power-of-2 sizeof(struct page)</title>

For tail pages, the kernel uses the 'compound_info' field to get to the
head page.  The bit 0 of the field indicates whether the page is a tail
page, and if set, the remaining bits represent a pointer to the head page.

For cases when size of struct page is power-of-2, change the encoding of
compound_info to store a mask that can be applied to the virtual address
of the tail page in order to access the head page.  It is possible because
struct page of the head page is naturally aligned with regards to order of
the page.

The significant impact of this modification is that all tail pages of the
same order will now have identical 'compound_info', regardless of the
compound page they are associated with.  This paves the way for
eliminating fake heads.

The HugeTLB Vmemmap Optimization (HVO) creates fake heads and it is only
applied when the sizeof(struct page) is power-of-2.  Having identical tail
pages allows the same page to be mapped into the vmemmap of all pages,
maintaining memory savings without fake heads.

If sizeof(struct page) is not power-of-2, there is no functional changes.

Limit mask usage to HugeTLB vmemmap optimization (HVO) where it makes a
difference.  The approach with mask would work in the wider set of
conditions, but it requires validating that struct pages are naturally
aligned for all orders up to the MAX_FOLIO_ORDER, which can be tricky.

a tail and where to locate the head page.  Bit 0 is set if the page is a
tail, and the remaining bits in the field point to the head page.

As preparation for changing how the field encodes information about the
head page, rename the field to 'compound_info'.

The pointer to barn currently exists in struct kmem_cache_node. That
struct is instantiated for every NUMA node with memory, but we want to
have a barn for every online node (including memoryless).

Thus decouple the two structures. In struct kmem_cache we have an array
for kmem_cache_node pointers that appears to be sized MAX_NUMNODES but
the actual size calculation in kmem_cache_init() uses nr_node_ids.
Therefore we can't just add another array of barn pointers. Instead
change the array to newly introduced struct kmem_cache_per_node_ptrs
holding both kmem_cache_node and barn pointer.

Adjust barn accessor and allocation/initialization code accordingly. For
now no functional change intended, barns are created 1:1 together with
kmem_cache_nodes.

Commit 7a8e71bc619d ("mm/slab: use stride to access slabobj_ext")
defined the type of slab-&gt;stride as unsigned short, because the author
initially planned to store stride within the lower 16 bits of the
page_type field, but later stored it in unused bits in the counters
field instead.

However, the idea of having only 2-byte stride turned out to be a
serious mistake. On systems with 64k pages, order-1 pages are 128k,
which is larger than USHRT_MAX. It triggers a debug warning because
s-&gt;size is 128k while stride, truncated to 2 bytes, becomes zero:

This leads to slab_obj_ext() returning the first slabobj_ext or all
objects and confuses the reference counting of object cgroups [1] and
memory (un)charging for memory cgroups [2].

Fortunately, the counters field has 32 unused bits instead of 16
on 64-bit CPUs, which is wide enough to hold any value of s-&gt;size.
Change the type to unsigned int.

alloc_empty_sheaf() allocates sheaves from SLAB_KMALLOC caches using
__GFP_NO_OBJ_EXT to avoid recursion, however it does not mark their
allocation tags empty before freeing, which results in a warning when
CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_DEBUG is set. Fix this by marking allocation
tags for such sheaves as empty.

The problem was technically introduced in commit 4c0a17e28340 but only
becomes possible to hit with commit 913ffd3a1bf5.

Merge series "slab: replace cpu (partial) slabs with sheaves".

The percpu sheaves caching layer was introduced as opt-in but the goal
was to eventually move all caches to them. This is the next step,
enabling sheaves for all caches (except the two bootstrap ones) and then
removing the per cpu (partial) slabs and lots of associated code.

Besides the lower locking overhead and much more likely fastpath when
freeing, this removes the rather complicated code related to the cpu
slab lockless fastpaths (using this_cpu_try_cmpxchg128/64) and all its
complications for PREEMPT_RT or kmalloc_nolock().

The lockless slab freelist+counters update operation using
try_cmpxchg128/64 remains and is crucial for freeing remote NUMA objects
and to allow flushing objects from sheaves to slabs mostly without the
node list_lock.

While SLAB_OBJ_EXT_IN_OBJ allows to reduce memory overhead to account
slab objects, it prevents slab merging because merging can change
the metadata layout.

As pointed out Vlastimil Babka, disabling merging solely for this memory
optimization may not be a net win, because disabling slab merging tends
to increase overall memory usage.

Restrict SLAB_OBJ_EXT_IN_OBJ to caches that are already unmergeable for
other reasons (e.g., those with constructors or SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU).
