mm/memory-failure.c defines and uses hwpoison_filter_* parameters but the
values of those parameters can only be modified via mm/hwpoison-inject.c
from userspace.  They have a potentially different life time.  Decouple
those parameters from mm/memory-failure.c to fix this broken layering.

Patch series "Add and use memdesc_flags_t".

At some point struct page will be separated from struct slab and struct
folio.  This is a step towards that by introducing a type for the 'flags'
word of all three structures.  This gives us a certain amount of type
safety by establishing that some of these unsigned longs are different
from other unsigned longs in that they contain things like node ID,
section number and zone number in the upper bits.  That lets us have
functions that can be easily called by anyone who has a slab, folio or
page (but not easily by anyone else) to get the node or zone.

There's going to be some unusual merge problems with this as some odd bits
of the kernel decide they want to print out the flags value or something
similar by writing page-&gt;flags and now they'll need to write page-&gt;flags.f
instead.  That's most of the churn here.  Maybe we should be removing
these things from the debug output?


This patch (of 11):

Wrap the unsigned long flags in a typedef.  In upcoming patches, this will
provide a strong hint that you can't just pass a random unsigned long to
functions which take this as an argument.

A race condition is possible in stable_page_flags() where user-space is
reading /proc/kpageflags concurrently to a folio split.  This may lead to
oopses or BUG_ON()s being triggered.

To fix this, this commit uses snapshot_page() in stable_page_flags() so
that stable_page_flags() works with a stable page and folio snapshots
instead.

Note that stable_page_flags() makes use of some functions that require the
original page or folio pointer to work properly (eg.  is_free_budy_page()
and folio_test_idle()).  Since those functions can't be used on the page
snapshot, we replace their usage with flags that were set by
snapshot_page() for this purpose.

Currently, the call to folio_precise_page_mapcount() from kpage_read() can
race with a folio split.  When the race happens we trigger a
VM_BUG_ON_FOLIO() in folio_entire_mapcount() (see splat below).

This commit fixes this race by using snapshot_page() so that we retrieve
the folio mapcount using a folio snapshot.

Let's implement an alternative when per-page mapcounts in large folios are
no longer maintained -- soon with CONFIG_NO_PAGE_MAPCOUNT.

For large folios, we'll return the per-page average mapcount within the
folio, whereby we round to the closest integer when calculating the
average: however, we'll always return at least 1 if the folio is mapped.

So assuming a folio with 512 pages, the average would be:
* 0 if not pages are mapped
* 1 if there are 1 .. 767 per-page mappings
* 2 if there are 767 .. 1279 per-page mappings
...

For hugetlb folios and for large folios that are fully mapped into all
address spaces, there is no change.

We'll make use of this helper in other context next.

As an alternative, we could simply return 0 for non-hugetlb large folios,
or disable this legacy interface with CONFIG_NO_PAGE_MAPCOUNT.

But the information exposed by this interface can still be valuable, and
frequently we deal with fully-mapped large folios where the average
corresponds to the actual page mapcount.  So we'll leave it like this for
now and document the new behavior.

Note: this interface is likely not very relevant for performance.  If ever
required, we could try doing a rather expensive rmap walk to collect
precisely how often this folio page is mapped.

This flag has similar constraints to PG_owner_priv_1 -- it is ignored by
core code, and is entirely for the use of the code which allocated the
folio.  Since the pagecache does not use it, individual filesystems can
use it.  The bufferhead code does use it, so filesystems which use the
buffer cache must not use it for another purpose.
