There is a deadlock in rr_close(), which is shown below: (Thread 1) | (Thread 2) | rr_open() rr_close() | add_timer() spin_lock_irqsave() //(1) | (wait a time) ... | rr_timer() del_timer_sync() | spin_lock_irqsave() //(2) (wait timer to stop) | ... We hold rrpriv->lock in position (1) of thread 1 and use del_timer_sync() to wait timer to stop, but timer handler also need rrpriv->lock in position (2) of thread 2. As a result, rr_close() will block forever. This patch extracts del_timer_sync() from the protection of spin_lock_irqsave(), which could let timer handler to obtain the needed lock. hippi: switch from 'pci_' to 'dma_' API

The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. When memory is allocated in 'rr_init_one()' GFP_KERNEL can be used because it is a probe function and no spinlock is taken in the between. When memory is allocated in 'rr_open()' GFP_KERNEL can be used because it is a '.ndo_open' function (see struct net_device_ops) and no spinlock is taken in the between. Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. There are a variety of indentation styles found. a) 4 spaces + '---help---' b) 7 spaces + '---help---' c) 8 spaces + '---help---' d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---' e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation) f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---' g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---' In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the following commend: $ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada
