With ARCH=hexagon, make allmodconfig && make W=1 C=1 reports: WARNING: modpost: missing MODULE_DESCRIPTION() in drivers/net/ethernet/synopsys/dwc-xlgmac.o With most other ARCH settings the MODULE_DESCRIPTION() is provided by the macro invocation in dwc-xlgmac-pci.c. However, for hexagon, the PCI bus is not enabled, and hence CONFIG_DWC_XLGMAC_PCI is not set. As a result, dwc-xlgmac-pci.c is not compiled, and hence is not linked into dwc-xlgmac.o. To avoid this issue, relocate the MODULE_DESCRIPTION() and other related macros from dwc-xlgmac-pci.c to dwc-xlgmac-common.c, since that file already has an existing MODULE_LICENSE() and it is unconditionally linked into dwc-xlgmac.o. We read dev->mtu without holding RTNL in many places, with READ_ONCE() annotations. Most drivers use "skb_transport_offset(skb) + tcp_hdrlen(skb)" to compute headers length for a TCP packet, but others use more convoluted (but equivalent) ways. net: allow gso_max_size to exceed 65536

The code for gso_max_size was added originally to allow for debugging and workaround of buggy devices that couldn't support TSO with blocks 64K in size. The original reason for limiting it to 64K was because that was the existing limits of IPv4 and non-jumbogram IPv6 length fields. With the addition of Big TCP we can remove this limit and allow the value to potentially go up to UINT_MAX and instead be limited by the tso_max_size value. So in order to support this we need to go through and clean up the remaining users of the gso_max_size value so that the values will cap at 64K for non-TCPv6 flows. In addition we can clean up the GSO_MAX_SIZE value so that 64K becomes GSO_LEGACY_MAX_SIZE and UINT_MAX will now be the upper limit for GSO_MAX_SIZE. v6: (edumazet) fixed a compile error if CONFIG_IPV6=n, in a new sk_trim_gso_size() helper. netif_set_tso_max_size() caps the requested TSO size with GSO_MAX_SIZE. ethernet: constify references to netdev->dev_addr in drivers

This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. Convert all Ethernet drivers from memcpy(... dev->addr_len) to eth_hw_addr_set(): @@ expression dev, np; @@ - memcpy(dev->dev_addr, np, dev->addr_len) + eth_hw_addr_set(dev, np) In theory addr_len may not be ETH_ALEN, but we don't expect non-Ethernet devices to live under this directory, and only the following cases of setting addr_len exist: - cxgb4 for mgmt device, and the drivers which set it to ETH_ALEN: s2io, mlx4, vxge.
