The calculation done by bmac_crc(addr) followed by taking the low 6 bits and reversing them is equivalent to taking the high 6 bits from crc32(~0, addr, ETH_ALEN). Just do that instead. After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/net/ethernet to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove(). Since zero-length arrays are deprecated, we are replacing them with C99 flexible-array members. As a result, instead of declaring a zero-length array, use the new DECLARE_FLEX_ARRAY() helper macro. It is not allowed to call kfree_skb() or consume_skb() from hardware interrupt context or with hardware interrupts being disabled. It should use dev_kfree_skb_irq() or dev_consume_skb_irq() instead. The difference between them is free reason, dev_kfree_skb_irq() means the SKB is dropped in error and dev_consume_skb_irq() means the SKB is consumed in normal. In this case, dev_kfree_skb() is called in bmac_tx_timeout() to drop the SKB, when tx timeout, so replace it with dev_kfree_skb_irq().
