The module pointer in class_create() never actually did anything, and it shouldn't have been requred to be set as a parameter even if it did something. Currently the 'c2dev' device data is not initialised when it's allocated. There maybe an issue when using strncpy() to populate the 'name' attribute since a NUL terminator may not be provided in all use-cases. To prevent such a failing, let's ensure the 'c2dev' device data area is fully zeroed out on allocation. 'default n' is the default value for any bool or tristate Kconfig setting so there is no need to write it explicitly. Also since commit f467c5640c29 ("kconfig: only write '# CONFIG_FOO is not set' for visible symbols") the Kconfig behavior is the same regardless of 'default n' being present or not: ... One side effect of (and the main motivation for) this change is making the following two definitions behave exactly the same: config FOO bool config FOO bool default n With this change, neither of these will generate a '# CONFIG_FOO is not set' line (assuming FOO isn't selected/implied). That might make it clearer to people that a bare 'default n' is redundant. ... Patch series "kmemcheck: kill kmemcheck", v2. As discussed at LSF/MM, kill kmemcheck. KASan is a replacement that is able to work without the limitation of kmemcheck (single CPU, slow). KASan is already upstream. We are also not aware of any users of kmemcheck (or users who don't consider KASan as a suitable replacement). The only objection was that since KASAN wasn't supported by all GCC versions provided by distros at that time we should hold off for 2 years, and try again. Now that 2 years have passed, and all distros provide gcc that supports KASAN, kill kmemcheck again for the very same reasons.
