However returning an error code in the remove callback doesn't accomplish that. Instead set the suppress_bind_attrs property (which makes it impossible to unbind the driver via sysfs). The only remaining way to unbind a sh_tmu2 device would be module unloading, but that doesn't apply here, as the driver cannot be built as a module. Also drop the useless remove callback. As a consequence, uses of the macro in non-modules will cause modprobe to misidentify their containing object file as a module when it is not (false positives), and modprobe might succeed rather than failing with a suitable error message. So remove it in the files in this commit, none of which can be built as modules. That work has been happening for the past few kernel releases and will continue over time, it's a long-term project/goal The driver core device link support missed 5.4 by just a bit, so it's been sitting and baking for many months now. It's from Saravana Kannan to help resolve the problems that DT-based systems have at boot time with dependancy graphs and kernel modules. Turns out that no one has actually tried to build a generic arm64 kernel with loads of modules and have it "just work" for a variety of platforms (like a distro kernel). The big problem turned out to be a lack of dependency information between different areas of DT entries, and the work here resolves that problem and now allows devices to boot properly, and quicker than a monolith kernel. Limit the returned number of interrupts to the maximum number of channels currently supported by the driver in a future-proof way, i.e. using ARRAY_SIZE() instead of a hardcoded number. We want to introduce a more robust approach to early probing. As the first step - move all the current early platform code to arch/sh. In order not to export internal drivers/base functions to arch code for this temporary solution - copy the two needed routines for driver matching from drivers/base/platform.c to arch/sh/drivers/platform_early.c. Also: call early_platform_cleanup() from subsys_initcall() so that it's called after all early devices are probed.
