ata_dev_config_cpr() takes the number of range descriptors from buf[0]
of the concurrent positioning ranges log (up to 255), which the device
reports independently of the log size in the GPL directory. The count is
then walked at a fixed 32-byte stride in two places with no bound: the
log read here, and the INQUIRY VPD page B9h emitter, which writes one
descriptor per range into the fixed 2048-byte ata_scsi_rbuf. A device
reporting a count larger than its own log overflows the read buffer (up
to 7704 bytes past a 512-byte slab), and a count above 62 overflows the
response buffer on the emit side.

Bound the count once, on probe, against both the log the device returned
and the number of descriptors the VPD B9h response buffer can hold
(ATA_DEV_MAX_CPR, derived from the rbuf size). Reject an out-of-range
count with a warning; this keeps the emitter in bounds with no separate
change there.

Commit 91842ed844a0 ("ata: libata-core: Set capacity to zero for a
security locked drive") introduced setting the device capacity (n_sectors)
to zero in ata_dev_configure() if the drive is security locked.

However, during runtime revalidation, ata_dev_revalidate() compares the
new capacity (now 0) with the old capacity (&gt;0) and detects a mismatch.
Since it does not consider the locked status, it returns -ENODEV.

This revalidation failure can occur when doing a reset of the PHY (e.g.
hard reset) for a controller that has I/Os in flight. The timed out
I/Os trigger the SCSI Error Handling (EH) path, which in turn invokes
libata device revalidation. If the drive is locked at runtime (e.g.
it lost power during reset and relocked), revalidation sees the capacity
transition to zero and fails, eventually disabling the device.

Fix this by allowing the capacity transition to zero in
ata_dev_revalidate() if the drive is reported as security locked by
ata_id_is_locked().

Skip HPA resize in ata_hpa_resize() if the drive is security locked.
If the drive is locked, the command to read the native max address
fails with -EACCES, which currently causes the sticky quirk
ATA_QUIRK_BROKEN_HPA to be set on the device.

Setting this sticky quirk causes subsequent revalidations (after the
drive is unlocked) to bypass HPA checks, preventing the unlocked drive
from exposing its full native capacity without a reboot or device removal.

Some but not all ata_exec_internal() calls happen from the context of
the ATA error handler. Commit c0c362b60e25 ("libata: implement cross-port
EH exclusion") added ata_eh_release() and ata_eh_acquire() calls in
ata_exec_internal(). Calling these functions is necessary if the caller
holds the eh_mutex but is not allowed if the caller doesn't hold that
mutex. Fix this by only calling ata_eh_release() and ata_eh_acquire() if
the caller holds the eh_mutex. An example of an indirect caller of
ata_exec_internal() that does not hold the eh_mutex is
ata_host_register().

The ACS specification does not allow a non-NCQ command to be issued while
an NCQ command is outstanding.

Commit 0ea84089dbf6 ("ata: libata-scsi: avoid Non-NCQ command starvation")
introduced a feature where a deferred non-NCQ command gets issued from a
workqueue. The design stores a single non-NCQ command per port.

However, when using Port Multipliers (PMPs), specifically PMPs that
support FIS-Based Switching (FBS), non-NCQ and NCQ commands can be mixed
on the same port, just not for the same link, see e.g. ata_std_qc_defer()
which is, and always has operated on a per-link basis.

Therefore, move the deferred_qc from struct ata_port to struct ata_link.
This way, when using a PMP with FBS, we will not needlessly defer commands
to all other links, just because one link issued a non-NCQ command while
having an NCQ command outstanding. Only commands for that specific link
will be deferred. This is in line with how PMPs with FBS worked before
commit 0ea84089dbf6 ("ata: libata-scsi: avoid Non-NCQ command starvation").

ADATA SU680 SSDs suffer from NCQ read and write commands timeouts or bus
errors when link power management (LPM) is enabled. Flag these devices
with the ATA_QUIRK_NOLPM quirk to prevent the use of LPM and avoid these
command failures.

According to a user report, the ST1000DM010-2EP102 has problems with LPM,
causing random system freezes. The drive belongs to the same BarraCuda
family as the ST2000DM008-2FR102 which has the same issue.

Currently, whenever you boot with a QEMU drive over an AHCI interface,
you get:
[    1.632121] ata1.00: applying bridge limits

This happens due to the kernel not believing the given drive is SATA,
since word 93 of IDENTIFY (ATA_ID_HW_CONFIG) is non-zero. The result is
a pretty severe limit in max_hw_sectors_kb, which limits our IO sizes.

QEMU has set word 93 erroneously for SATA drives but does not, in any
way, emulate any of these real hardware details. There is no PATA
drive and no SATA cable.

As such, add a BRIDGE_OK quirk for QEMU HARDDISK. Special care is taken
to limit this quirk to "2.5+", to allow for fixed future versions.

This results in the max_hw_sectors being limited solely by the
controller interface's limits. Which, for AHCI controllers, takes it
from 128KB to 32767KB.

When a SATA DAS enclosure is connected behind a Thunderbolt PCIe
switch, hot-unplugging the whole enclosure causes pciehp to tear down
the PCI hierarchy before the SCSI layer issues SYNCHRONIZE CACHE and
START STOP UNIT for the disks.

libata still queues these commands and the AHCI driver tries to access
the HBA registers even though the PCI channel is already offline. This
results in a series of timeouts and error recovery attempts, e.g.:

In this test setup with two disks, the hot-unplug sequence shrinks from
about 226 seconds (~3.8 minutes) between the Link Down event and the
last SYNCHRONIZE CACHE failure to under a second. Without this patch the
total delay grows roughly with the number of disks, because each disk
gets its own SYNCHRONIZE CACHE and qc timeout series.

If the underlying PCI device is already gone, these commands cannot
succeed anyway. Avoid issuing them by introducing
ata_adapter_is_online(), which checks pci_channel_offline() for
PCI-based hosts. It is used from ata_scsi_find_dev() to return NULL,
causing the SCSI layer to fail new commands with DID_BAD_TARGET
immediately, and from ata_qc_issue() to bail out before touching the
HBA registers.

Since such failures would otherwise trigger libata error handling,
ata_adapter_is_online() is also consulted from ata_scsi_port_error_handler().
When the adapter is offline, libata skips ap-&gt;ops-&gt;error_handler(ap) and
completes error handling using the existing path, rather than running
a full EH sequence against a dead adapter.

With this change, SYNCHRONIZE CACHE and START STOP UNIT commands
issued during hot-unplug fail quickly once the PCI channel is offline,
without qc timeout spam or long libata EH delays.

cancel_work_sync() is a sleeping function so it cannot be called with
the spin lock of a port being held. Move the call to this function in
ata_port_detach() after EH completes, with the port lock released,
together with other work cancellation calls.
