Not sure, what the consequences are. So fix it by introducing a special case for the initial initialization and do the right +1 in both cases. 2020-10-29perf stat: Skip duration_time in setup_system_wideJin Yao1-1/+3
[ Upstream commit 002a3d690f95804bdef6b70b26154103518e13d9 ] Some metrics (such as DRAM_BW_Use) consists of uncore events and duration_time. For uncore events, counter->core.system_wide is true. But for duration_time, counter->core.system_wide is false so target.system_wide is set to false. Then 'enable_on_exec' is set in perf_event_attr of uncore event. Kernel will return error when trying to open the uncore event. This patch skips the duration_time in setup_system_wide then target.system_wide will be set to true for the evlist of uncore events + duration_time. 2020-10-29perf intel-pt: Fix "context_switch event has no tid" errorAdrian Hunter1-4/+4
[ Upstream commit 7d537a8d2e76bc4fc71e34545ceaa463ac2cd928 ] A context_switch event can have no tid because pids can be detached from a task while the task is still running (in do_exit()). Note this won't happen with per-task contexts because then tracing stops at perf_event_exit_task() If a task with no tid gets preempted, or a dying task gets preempted and its parent releases it, when it subsequently gets switched back in, Intel PT will not be able to determine what task is running and prints an error "context_switch event has no tid". However, it is not really an error because the task is in kernel space and the decoder can continue to decode successfully. Fix by changing the error to be only a logged message, and make allowance for tid == -1. 2020-10-29perf tools: Make GTK2 support opt-inArnaldo Carvalho de Melo3-5/+6
[ Upstream commit 4751bddd3f983af2004ec470ca38b42d7a8a53bc ] This is bitrotting, nobody is stepping up to work on it, and since we treat warnings as errors, feature detection is failing in its main, faster test (tools/build/feature/test-all.c) because of the GTK+2 infobar check. So make this opt-in, at some point ditch this if nobody volunteers to take care of this. 2020-09-23perf evlist: Fix cpu/thread map leakNamhyung Kim1-3/+8
[ Upstream commit bfd1b83d75e44a9f65de30accb3dd3b5940bd3ac ] Asan reported leak of cpu and thread maps as they have one more refcount than released. I found that after setting evlist maps it should release it's refcount. It seems to be broken from the beginning so I chose the original commit as the culprit. But not sure how it's applied to stable trees since there are many changes in the code after that. 2020-09-23perf record: Don't clear event's period if set by a termIan Rogers1-8/+26
[ Upstream commit 3b0a18c1aa6cbfa7b0dd513b6be9893ef6e6ac30 ] If events in a group explicitly set a frequency or period with leader sampling, don't disable the samples on those events. Prior to 5.8: perf record -e '{cycles/period=12345000/,instructions/period=6789000/}:S' would clear the attributes then apply the config terms. In commit 5f34278867b7 leader sampling configuration was moved to after applying the config terms, in the example, making the instructions' event have its period cleared. This change makes it so that sampling is only disabled if configuration terms aren't present. Try 'perf stat' The issue is, if we enable the extended regs (-IXMM0), but the pmu->capabilities is not set with PERF_PMU_CAP_EXTENDED_REGS, the kernel will return -EOPNOTSUPP error. Currently following syntax is resolved as raw event with 0xead value: uncore_imc_free_running/read/ instead of using 'read' term from uncore_imc_free_running pmu, because 'read' is correct raw event syntax with 0xead value. To solve this issue we do following: - check existing terms during rXXXX syntax processing and make them priority in case of conflict - allow pmu/r0x1234/ syntax to be able to specify conflicting raw event (implemented in previous patch) Also add automated tests for this and perf_pmu__parse_cleanup call to parse_events_terms, so the test gets properly cleaned up. commit 12d572e785b15bc764e956caaa8a4c846fd15694 upstream. Fix the memory leakage in debuginfo__find_trace_events() when the probe point is not found in the debuginfo. If there is no probe point found in the debuginfo, debuginfo__find_probes() will NOT return -ENOENT, but 0. Thus the caller of debuginfo__find_probes() must check the tf.ntevs and release the allocated memory for the array of struct probe_trace_event. The current code releases the memory only if the debuginfo__find_probes() hits an error but not checks tf.ntevs. In the result, the memory allocated on *tevs are not released if tf.ntevs == 0. This fixes the memory leakage by checking tf.ntevs == 0 in addition to ret < 0. Since the debuginfo__find_probes() can return 0 even if it does not find given probe point in the debuginfo, fill_empty_trace_arg() can be called with tf.ntevs == 0 and it can emit a wrong warning. To fix this, reject ntevs == 0 in fill_empty_trace_arg(). E.g. without this patch; # perf probe -x /lib64/libc-2.30.so -a "memcpy arg1=%di" Failed to find the location of the '%di' variable at this address. Perhaps it has been optimized out. Use -V with the --range option to show '%di' location range. Otherwise the last event type will be checked against all the arm_spe_pmus[i]->types, none will match and an out of bound 'i' index will be used in arm_spe_recording_init(). We don't support concurrent multiple arm_spe_x events currently, that is checked in arm_spe_recording_options(), and it will show the relevant info. So add the check and record of the first found 'arm_spe_pmu' to fix this issue here. Change the counter name DLFT_CCERROR to DLFT_CCFINISH on IBM z15. This counter counts completed DEFLATE instructions with exit code 0, 1 or 2. Since exit code 0 means success and exit code 1 or 2 indicate errors, change the counter name to avoid confusion. Try 'perf stat' Fix by suppressing register sampling on the intel_pt evsel. 2020-07-06perf report TUI: Fix segmentation fault in perf_evsel__hists_browse()Wei Li1-6/+11
The segmentation fault can be reproduced as following steps: 1) Executing perf report in tui. 2) Typing '/xxxxx' to filter the symbol to get nothing matched. 3) Pressing enter with no entry selected. Then it will report a segmentation fault. It is caused by the lack of check of browser->he_selection when accessing it's member res_samples in perf_evsel__hists_browse(). These processes are meaningful for specified samples, so we can skip these when nothing is selected.
