2017-11-14mtd: Avoid probe failures when mtd->dbg.dfs_dir is invalidBoris Brezillon1-1/+6
Commit e8e3edb95ce6 ("mtd: create per-device and module-scope debugfs entries") tried to make MTD related debugfs stuff consistent across the MTD framework by creating a root <debugfs>/mtd/ directory containing one directory per MTD device. The problem is that, by default, the MTD layer only registers the master device if no partitions are defined for this master. This behavior breaks all drivers that expect mtd->dbg.dfs_dir to be filled correctly after calling mtd_device_register() in order to add their own debugfs entries. The only way we can force all MTD masters to be registered no matter if they expose partitions or not is by enabling the CONFIG_MTD_PARTITIONED_MASTER option. In such situations, there's no other solution but to accept skipping debugfs initialization when dbg.dfs_dir is invalid, and when this happens, inform the user that he should consider enabling CONFIG_MTD_PARTITIONED_MASTER. 2017-11-13mtd: mtdram: properly handle the phys argument in the point methodNicolas Pitre1-0/+22
When the phys pointer is non null, the point method is expected to return the physical address for the pointed area. In the case of the mtdram driver we have to retrieve the physical address for the corresponding vmalloc area. However, there is no guarantee that the vmalloc area is made of physically contiguous pages. In that case we simply limit retlen to the actually contiguous pages. Convert slram to use memremap() to map the memory it uses to back an MTD device, as this is the proper interface for mapping memory. This change enables normal memory to be used to back an MTD device on arm64, as arm64 prevents ioremap() being used on normal memory. 2017-11-06mtd: powernv_flash: Use opal_async_wait_response_interruptible()Cyril Bur1-22/+35
The OPAL calls performed in this driver shouldn't be using opal_async_wait_response() as this performs a wait_event() which, on long running OPAL calls could result in hung task warnings. wait_event() prevents timely signal delivery which is also undesirable. This patch also attempts to quieten down the use of dev_err() when errors haven't actually occurred and also to return better information up the stack rather than always -EIO. While this driver expects to interact asynchronously, OPAL is well within its rights to return OPAL_SUCCESS to indicate that the operation completed without the need for a callback. We shouldn't treat OPAL_SUCCESS as an error rather we should wrap up and return promptly to the caller. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman2-0/+2
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. Several MTD devices are using debugfs entries created in the root. This commit provides the means for a standardized subtree, creating one "mtd" entry at root, and one entry per device inside it, named after the device. The tree is registered in add_mtd_device, and released in del_mtd_device. The 35h instruction op code has two aliases/macro definitions: - SPINOR_OP_RDCR from include/linux/mtd/spi-nor.h - SPINOR_OP_RDSR2 from drivers/mtd/devices/serial_flash_cmds.h Actually, some manufacturers name the associated internal register Status Register 2 whereas other manufacturers name it Configuration Register hence the two different macros for the very same instruction op code. Since the spi-nor.h file is the reference file for all SPI NOR instruction op codes, this patch removes the definition of the SPINOR_OP_RDSR2 macro. Also the SPINOR_OP_RDSR2 macro will be associated to another instruction op code in a further patch so we need to avoid a conflict defining this macro twice. Indeed the JESD216 rev B specification, defining the SFDP tables, also refers to the 3Eh and 3Fh instruction op codes to write/read the Status Register 2 on some SPI NOR flash memories, the 35h op code still being used to read the Configuration Register/Status Register 2 on other memories. The mchp23lcv1024 is similar to the mchp23k256, the differences (from a software point of view) are the capacity of the chip and the size of the addresses used. There is no way to detect the specific chip so we must be told via a Device Tree or default to mchp23k256 when device tree is not used. 2017-05-15mtd: m25p80: add support of SPI 1-2-2 and 1-4-4 protocolsCyrille Pitchen1-23/+79
Before this patch, m25p80_read() supported few SPI protocols: - regular SPI 1-1-1 - SPI Dual Output 1-1-2 - SPI Quad Output 1-1-4 On the other hand, m25p80_write() only supported SPI 1-1-1. This patch updates both m25p80_read() and m25p80_write() functions to let them support SPI 1-2-2 and SPI 1-4-4 protocols for Fast Read and Page Program SPI commands. It adopts a conservative approach to avoid regressions. Hence the new implementations try to be as close as possible to the old implementations, so the main differences are: - the tx_nbits values now being set properly for the spi_transfer structures carrying the (op code + address/dummy) bytes - and the spi_transfer structure being split into 2 spi_transfer structures when the numbers of I/O lines are different for op code and for address/dummy byte transfers on the SPI bus. Besides, the current spi-nor framework supports neither the SPI 2-2-2 nor the SPI 4-4-4 protocols. So, for now, we don't need to update the m25p80_{read|write}_reg() functions as SPI 1-1-1 is the only one possible protocol. 2017-05-15mtd: spi-nor: introduce SPI 1-2-2 and SPI 1-4-4 protocolsCyrille Pitchen1-12/+9
This patch changes the prototype of spi_nor_scan(): its 3rd parameter is replaced by a 'struct spi_nor_hwcaps' pointer, which tells the spi-nor framework about the actual hardware capabilities supported by the SPI controller and its driver. Besides, this patch also introduces a new 'struct spi_nor_flash_parameter' telling the spi-nor framework about the hardware capabilities supported by the SPI flash memory and the associated settings required to use those hardware caps. Then, to improve the readability of spi_nor_scan(), the discovery of the memory settings and the memory initialization are now split into two dedicated functions. 1 - spi_nor_init_params() The spi_nor_init_params() function is responsible for initializing the 'struct spi_nor_flash_parameter'. Currently this structure is filled with legacy values but further patches will allow to override some parameter values dynamically, for instance by reading the JESD216 Serial Flash Discoverable Parameter (SFDP) tables from the SPI memory. The spi_nor_init_params() function only deals with the hardware capabilities of the SPI flash memory: especially it doesn't care about the hardware capabilities supported by the SPI controller. 2 - spi_nor_setup() The second function is called once the 'struct spi_nor_flash_parameter' has been initialized by spi_nor_init_params(). With both 'struct spi_nor_flash_parameter' and 'struct spi_nor_hwcaps', the new argument of spi_nor_scan(), spi_nor_setup() computes the best match between hardware caps supported by both the (Q)SPI memory and controller hence selecting the relevant settings for (Fast) Read and Page Program operations. This patch renames the SPINOR_OP_* macros of the 4-byte address instruction set so the new names all share a common pattern: the 4-byte address name is built from the 3-byte address name appending the "_4B" suffix. The patch also introduces new op codes to support other SPI protocols such as SPI 1-4-4 and SPI 1-2-2. This is a transitional patch and will help a later patch of spi-nor.c to automate the translation from the 3-byte address op codes into their 4-byte address version. For reading flash content we use MMIO but it's possible to read only first 16 MiB this way. It's simply an arch design/limitation. To support flash sizes bigger than 16 MiB implement indirect access using ChipCommon registers. This has been tested using MX25L25635F. BCM53573 is a new series of Broadcom's SoCs. It's based on ARM and uses this old ChipCommon-based flash access. Early tests resulted in flash corruptions that were tracked down to using cached MMIO for flash read access. Switch to ioremap_nocache conditionally to support BCM53573 and don't break performance on old MIPS devices. We dropped strict MIPS dependency for bcm47xxsflash driver in: commit 5651d6aaf489 ("mtd: bcm47xxsflash: use ioremap_cache() instead of KSEG0ADDR()") but using ioremap_cache still limits building it to few selected architectures only. A recent commit 57d8f7dd2132 ("bcma: allow enabling serial flash support on non-MIPS SoCs") automatically dropped MIPS dependency for MTD_BCM47XXSFLASH which broke building e.g. on powerpc and cris. The bcma change is alright as it doesn't break building bcma code in any way. MTD_BCM47XXSFLASH on the other hand should be limited to archs which need it and can build it (by providing ioremap_cache). An opal_msg of type OPAL_MSG_ASYNC_COMP contains the return code in the params[1] struct member. However this isn't intuitive or obvious when reading the code and requires that a user look at the skiboot documentation or opal-api.h to verify this. Add an inline function to get the return code from an opal_msg and update call sites accordingly.
