2007-10-10Drop 'size' argument from bio_endio and bi_end_ioNeilBrown1-9/+4
As bi_end_io is only called once when the reqeust is complete, the 'size' argument is now redundant. Remove it. Now there is no need for bio_endio to subtract the size completed from bi_size. So don't do that either. While we are at it, change bi_end_io to return void. Signed-off-by: Neil Brown <neilb@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>
2007-07-24[BLOCK] Get rid of request_queue_t typedefJens Axboe1-6/+6
Some of the code has been gradually transitioned to using the proper struct request_queue, but there's lots left. So do a full sweet of the kernel and get rid of this typedef and replace its uses with the proper type. Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>
2006-10-28[PATCH] md: fix up maintenance of ->degraded in multipathNeilBrown1-0/+2
A recent fix which made sure ->degraded was initialised properly exposed a second bug - ->degraded wasn't been updated when drives failed or were hot-added. Signed-off-by: Neil Brown <neilb@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-10-22[PATCH] md: fix calculation of ->degraded for multipath and raid10NeilBrown1-1/+1
Two less-used md personalities have bugs in the calculation of ->degraded (the extent to which the array is degraded). Signed-off-by: Neil Brown <neilb@suse.de> Cc: <stable@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-10-03[PATCH] md: define ->congested_fn for raid1, raid10, and multipathNeilBrown1-0/+24
raid1, raid10 and multipath don't report their 'congested' status through bdi_*_congested, but should. This patch adds the appropriate functions which just check the 'congested' status of all active members (with appropriate locking). raid1 read_balance should be modified to prefer devices where bdi_read_congested returns false. Then we could use the '&' branch rather than the '|' branch. However that should would need some benchmarking first to make sure it is actually a good idea. 2006-10-03[PATCH] md: replace magic numbers in sb_dirty with well defined bit flagsNeilBrown1-2/+1
Instead of magic numbers (0,1,2,3) in sb_dirty, we have some flags instead: MD_CHANGE_DEVS Some device state has changed requiring superblock update on all devices. MD_CHANGE_CLEAN The array has transitions from 'clean' to 'dirty' or back, requiring a superblock update on active devices, but possibly not on spares MD_CHANGE_PENDING A superblock update is underway. We wait for an update to complete by waiting for all flags to be clear. A flag can be set at any time, even during an update, without risk that the change will be lost. Stop exporting md_update_sb - isn't needed. Signed-off-by: Neil Brown <neilb@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-03-26[PATCH] mempool: use common mempool kzalloc allocatorMatthew Dobson1-15/+2
This patch changes a mempool user, which is basically just a wrapper around kzalloc(), to use the common mempool_kmalloc/kfree, rather than its own wrapper function, removing duplicated code. 2006-01-10[PATCH] Decrease number of pointer derefs in multipath.cJesper Juhl1-3/+4
Decrease the number of pointer derefs in drivers/md/multipath.c Benefits of the patch: - Fewer pointer dereferences should make the code slightly faster. - Size of generated code is smaller - improved readability Signed-off-by: Jesper Juhl <jesper.juhl@gmail.com> Acked-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Cc: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com> Acked-by: NeilBrown <neilb@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2006-01-06[PATCH] md: remove personality numbering from mdNeilBrown1-6/+5
md supports multiple different RAID level, each being implemented by a 'personality' (which is often in a separate module). These personalities have fairly artificial 'numbers'. The numbers are use to: 1- provide an index into an array where the various personalities are recorded 2- identify the module (via an alias) which implements are particular personality. Neither of these uses really justify the existence of personality numbers. The array can be replaced by a linked list which is searched (array lookup only happens very rarely). Module identification can be done using an alias based on level rather than 'personality' number. The current 'raid5' modules support two level (4 and 5) but only one personality. This slight awkwardness (which was handled in the mapping from level to personality) can be better handled by allowing raid5 to register 2 personalities. With this change in place, the core md module does not need to have an exhaustive list of all possible personalities, so other personalities can be added independently. This patch also moves the check for chunksize being non-zero into the ->run routines for the personalities that need it, rather than having it in core-md. This has a side effect of allowing 'faulty' and 'linear' not to have a chunk-size set. 2005-11-09[PATCH] md: convert 'faulty' and 'in_sync' fields to bits in 'flags' fieldNeilBrown1-11/+12
This has the advantage of removing the confusion caused by 'rdev_t' and 'mddev_t' both having 'in_sync' fields. Signed-off-by: Neil Brown <neilb@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2005-11-01[BLOCK] Unify the seperate read/write io stat fields into arraysJens Axboe1-7/+3
Instead of having ->read_sectors and ->write_sectors, combine the two into ->sectors[2] and similar for the other fields. This saves a branch several places in the io path, since we don't have to care for what the actual io direction is. On my x86-64 box, that's 200 bytes less text in just the core (not counting the various drivers). Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@suse.de>
2005-10-09[PATCH] gfp flags annotations - part 1Al Viro1-1/+1
- added typedef unsigned int __nocast gfp_t; - replaced __nocast uses for gfp flags with gfp_t - it gives exactly the same warnings as far as sparse is concerned, doesn't change generated code (from gcc point of view we replaced unsigned int with typedef) and documents what's going on far better. 2005-09-10[PATCH] md: fail IO request to md that require a barrier.NeilBrown1-0/+5
md does not yet support BIO_RW_BARRIER, so be honest about it and fail (-EOPNOTSUPP) any such requests. Signed-off-by: Neil Brown <neilb@cse.unsw.edu.au> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-06-22[PATCH] md: remove unneeded NULL checks before kfreeJesper Juhl1-2/+1
This patch removes some unneeded checks of pointers being NULL before calling kfree() on them. kfree() handles NULL pointers just fine, checking first is pointless. 2005-05-01[PATCH] Change synchronize_kernel to _rcu and _schedPaul E. McKenney1-1/+1

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
