MIPS does not currently define ELF_CORE_COPY_REGS macros and as a result
the generic implementation is used. The generic version attempts to do
directly map (struct pt_regs) into (elf_gregset_t), which isn't correct
for MIPS platforms and also triggers a BUG() at runtime in
include/linux/elfcore.h:16 (BUG_ON(sizeof(*elfregs) != sizeof(*regs)))

The stack and heap have both been executable by default on MIPS until
now. This patch changes the default to be non-executable, but only for
ELF binaries with a non-executable PT_GNU_STACK header present. This
does apply to both the heap & the stack, despite the name PT_GNU_STACK,
and this matches the behaviour of other architectures like ARM & x86.
Current MIPS toolchains do not produce the PT_GNU_STACK header, which
means that we can rely upon this patch not changing the behaviour of
existing binaries. The new default will only take effect for newly
compiled binaries once toolchains are updated to support PT_GNU_STACK,
and since those binaries are newly compiled they can be compiled
expecting the change in default behaviour. Again this matches the way in
which the ARM & x86 architectures handled their implementations of
non-executable memory.

AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH should be defined with the maximum number of
NEW_AUX_ENT entries that ARCH_DLINFO can contain, but it wasn't defined
for MIPS at all even though ARCH_DLINFO will contain one NEW_AUX_ENT for
the VDSO address.
This shouldn't be a problem as AT_VECTOR_SIZE_BASE includes space for
AT_BASE_PLATFORM which MIPS doesn't use, but lets define it now and add
the comment above ARCH_DLINFO as found in several other architectures to
remind future modifiers of ARCH_DLINFO to keep AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH up to
date.

MIPS64 code uses rela-style relocs, and MIPS64r6 modules may include the
new R_MIPS_PC21 & R_MIPS_PC26 relocations. We thus need to support these
relocations in order to load MIPS64r6 kernel modules. They are similar
to the existing R_MIPS_PC16 relocation but applying to a wider field.
Implement support for them by genericising the existing R_MIPS_PC16
implementation such that it can be used for different field widths, and
calling it for all 3 reloc types.

Depending on the configuration either the 32 or 64 bit version of
elf_check_arch() is defined. parse_crash_elf{32|64}_headers() does
some basic verification of the ELF header via
vmcore_elf{32|64}_check_arch() which happen to map to elf_check_arch().
Since the implementation 32 and 64 bit version of elf_check_arch()
differ, we use the wrong type:
In file included from include/linux/elf.h:4:0,
from fs/proc/vmcore.c:13:
fs/proc/vmcore.c: In function 'parse_crash_elf64_headers':
>> arch/mips/include/asm/elf.h:228:23: error: initialization from incompatible pointer type [-Werror=incompatible-pointer-types]
struct elfhdr *__h = (hdr); \
^
include/linux/crash_dump.h:41:37: note: in expansion of macro 'elf_check_arch'
#define vmcore_elf64_check_arch(x) (elf_check_arch(x) || vmcore_elf_check_arch_cross(x))
^
fs/proc/vmcore.c:1015:4: note: in expansion of macro 'vmcore_elf64_check_arch'
!vmcore_elf64_check_arch(&ehdr) ||
^
Therefore, we rather define vmcore_elf{32|64}_check_arch() as a
basic machine check and use it also in binfm_elf?32.c as well.

Add an `ieee754=' kernel parameter to control IEEE Std 754 conformance
mode.
Use separate flags copied from the respective CPU feature flags, and
adjusted according to the conformance mode selected, to make binaries
requesting individual NaN encoding modes accepted or rejected as needed.
Update the initial setting for FCSR and, in the full FPU emulation mode,
its read-only mask accordingly. Accept the mode selection requested for
legacy processors as well.
As with the EF_MIPS_NAN2008 ELF file header flag adjust both ABS2008 and
NAN2008 bits at the same time, to match the choice made for hardware
currently implemented.

Handle the EF_MIPS_NAN2008 ELF file header flag and refuse execution
where there is no support in the FPU for the NaN encoding mode requested
by a binary invoked. Ensure that the setting of the bit in the binary
matches one in any intepreter used. Set the thread's initial FCSR
contents according to the value of the EF_MIPS_NAN2008.
Set the values of the FCSR ABS2008 and NAN2008 bits both to the same
value if possible, to take the approach taken with existing FPU hardware
into account. As of now all implementations have both bits hardwired to
the same value, that is both are fixed at 0 or both are fixed at 1, even
though the architecture allows for implementations where the amount of
control implemented with each of these two individual bits is
independent of each other.

Add an initial implementation of a proper (i.e. an ELF shared library)
VDSO. With this commit it does not export any symbols, it only replaces
the current signal return trampoline page. A later commit will add user
implementations of gettimeofday()/clock_gettime().
To support both new toolchains and old ones which don't generate ABI
flags section, we define its content manually and then use a tool
(genvdso) to patch up the section to have the correct name and type.
genvdso also extracts symbol offsets ({,rt_}sigreturn) needed by the
kernel, and generates a C file containing a "struct mips_vdso_image"
containing both the VDSO data and these offsets. This C file is
compiled into the kernel.
On 64-bit kernels we require a different VDSO for each supported ABI,
so we may build up to 3 different VDSOs. The VDSO to use is selected by
the mips_abi structure.
A kernel/user shared data page is created and mapped below the VDSO
image. This is currently empty, but will be used by the user time
function implementations which are added later.
[markos.chandras@imgtec.com:
- Add more comments
- Move abi detection in genvdso.h since it's the get_symbol function
that needs it.
- Add an R6 specific way to calculate the base address of VDSO in order
to avoid the branch instruction which affects performance.
- Do not patch .gnu.attributes since it's not needed for dynamic linking.
- Simplify Makefile a little bit.
- checkpatch fixes

In order for userland to determine whether various features are safe to
use, it will need to know both that the hardware supports those features
and that the kernel is recent enough & configured appropriately to
support them. For example under the O32 modeless FP proposal the dynamic
linker & ifunc resolvers will need this information. The kernel is the
only thing in a position to know availability accurately, so the kernel
needs to provide the information to userland. This patch introduces the
infrastructure to provide the AT_HWCAP aux vector to userland in order
to provide that information. It also defines the 2 currently specified
flags, which indicate MIPSr6 & MSA support.

Fix "BUG: using smp_processor_id() in preemptible" reported in accesses
to thread's FPU defaults: the value to initialise FSCR to at program
startup, the FCSR r/w mask and the contents of FIR in full FPU
emulation, removing a regression introduced with 9b26616c [MIPS: Respect
the ISA level in FCSR handling] and f6843626 [MIPS: math-emu: Set FIR
feature flags for full emulation].
Use `boot_cpu_data' to obtain the data from, following the approach that
`cpu_has_*' macros take and avoiding the call to `smp_processor_id' made
in the reference to `current_cpu_data'. The contents of FSCR have to be
consistent across processors in an SMP system, the settings there must
not change as a thread is migrated across processors. And the contents
of FIR are guaranteed to be consistent in FPU emulation, by definition.

Set good default FPU flags (FR0) for O32 binaries similar to what the

introduced in commit 46490b572544 ("MIPS: kernel: elf: Improve the

FPU mode at all because it assumed that the FPU mode was already set
properly. That led to O32 userland problems.

Define the central place the default FCSR value is set from, initialised
in `cpu_probe'. Determine the FCSR mask applied to values written to
the register with CTC1 in the full emulation mode and via ptrace(2),
according to the ISA level of processor hardware or the writability of
bits 31:18 if actual FPU hardware is used.
Software may rely on FCSR bits whose functions our emulator does not
implement, so it should not allow them to be set or software may get
confused. For ptrace(2) it's just sanity.

The previous implementation did not cover all possible FPU combinations
and it silently allowed ABI incompatible objects to be loaded with the
wrong ABI. For example, the previous logic would set the FP_64 ABI as
the matching ABI for an FP_XX object combined with an FP_64A object.
This was wrong, and the matching ABI should have been FP_64A.
The previous logic is now replaced with a new one which determines
the appropriate FPU mode to be used rather than the FP ABI. This has
the advantage that the entire logic is much simpler since it is the FPU
mode we are interested in rather than the FP ABI resulting to code
simplifications. This also removes the now obsolete FP32XX_HYBRID_FPRS
option.

Hybrid FPRs is a scheme where scalar FP registers are 64b wide, but
accesses to odd indexed single registers use bits 63:32 of the
preceeding even indexed 64b register. In this mode all FP code
except that built for the plain FP64 ABI can execute correctly. Most
notably a combination of FP64A & FP32 code can execute correctly,
allowing for existing FP32 binaries to be linked with new FP64A binaries
that can make use of 64 bit FP & MSA.
Hybrid FPRs are implemented by setting both the FR & FRE bits, trapping
& emulating single precision FP instructions (via Reserved Instruction
exceptions) whilst allowing others to execute natively. It therefore has
a penalty in terms of execution speed, and should only be used when no
fully native mode can be. As more binaries are recompiled to use either
the FPXX or FP64(A) ABIs, the need for hybrid FPRs should diminish.
However in the short to mid term it allows for a gradual transition
towards that world, rather than a complete ABI break which is not
feasible for some users & not desirable for many.
A task will be executed using the hybrid FPR scheme when its
TIF_HYBRID_FPREGS flag is set & TIF_32BIT_FPREGS is clear. A further
patch will set the flags as necessary, this patch simply adds the
infrastructure necessary for the hybrid FPR mode to work.

do. In order to preserve backwards compatibility a 64-bit FPU will act
like a 32-bit FPU (by accessing doubles from the least significant 32
bits of an even-odd pair of FP registers) when the Status.FR bit is
zero, again just like a mips64 CPU. The standard O32 ABI is defined
expecting a 32-bit FPU, however recent toolchains support use of a
64-bit FPU from an O32 MIPS32 executable. When an ELF executable is
built to use a 64-bit FPU a new flag (EF_MIPS_FP64) is set in the ELF
header.
With this patch the kernel will check the EF_MIPS_FP64 flag when
executing an O32 binary, and set Status.FR accordingly. The addition
of O32 64-bit FP support lessens the opportunity for optimisation in
the FPU emulator, so a CONFIG_MIPS_O32_FP64_SUPPORT Kconfig option is
introduced to allow this support to be disabled for those that don't
require it.
Inspired by an earlier patch by Leonid Yegoshin, but implemented more
cleanly & correctly.

Having received another series of whitespace patches I decided to do this
once and for all rather than dealing with this kind of patches trickling
in forever.

The high bits of current->personality carry settings that we don't want to
clobber on each exec. Only clobber them if the lower bits that indicate
either PER_LINUX or PER_LINUX32 are invalid.
The clobbering prevents us from using useful bits like ADDR_NO_RANDOMIZE.

Based somewhat on the PPC implementation.
32-bit processes have the heap randomized in an 8MB space, 256MB for
64-bit processes.

This is a preliminary patch to add a vdso to all user processes. Still
missing are ELF headers and .eh_frame information. But it is enough to
allow us to move signal trampolines off of the stack. Note that emulation
of branch delay slots in the FPU emulator still requires the stack.
We allocate a single page (the vdso) and write all possible signal
trampolines into it. The stack is moved down by one page and the vdso is
mapped into this space.

kernel/elfcore.c includes <linux/elf.h> which includes the <asm/elf.h>. In
<asm/elf.h>, struct pt_regs is declared inside the parameter list of the
elf_dump_regs function which causes a kernel build warning.
Fixed by adding a forward declaration of struct pt_regs.

The userspace runtime linker uses the elf_platform to find the libraries
optimized for the current CPU archecture variant. First we need to allow it
to be set to something other than NULL. Follow-on patches will set some
values for specific CPUs.
GLIBC already does the right thing. The kernel just needs to supply good
data.

Currently all architectures but microblaze unconditionally define
USE_ELF_CORE_DUMP. The microblaze omission seems like an error to me, so
let's kill this ifdef and make sure we are the same everywhere.

If an o32 process generates a core dump on a 64 bit kernel, the core file
will not be correctly recognized. This is because ELF_CORE_COPY_REGS and
ELF_CORE_COPY_TASK_REGS are not correctly defined for o32 and will use
the default register set which would be CONFIG_64BIT in asm/elf.h.
So we'll switch to use the right register defines in this situation by
checking for WANT_COMPAT_REG_H and use the right defines of
ELF_CORE_COPY_REGS and ELF_CORE_COPY_TASK_REGS.
