If LPC KCS driver is registered ahead of lpc-ctrl module, LPC KCS block will be enabled without heart beating of LCLK until lpc-ctrl enables the LCLK. This issue causes improper handling on host interrupts when the host sends interrupt in that time frame. Then kernel eventually forcibly disables the interrupt with dumping stack and printing a 'nobody cared this irq' message out. To prevent this issue, all LPC sub-nodes should enable LCLK individually so this patch adds clock control logic into the LPC KCS driver. 2021-11-05Add bus-timeout-ms and #retries device tree propertiesJae Hyun Yoo2-0/+15
BMC uses I2C bus 7 as a PMBus channel to communicate with PSUs, also ME uses this bus as SMLink to control PSUs so this bus is managed by multi-masters. In this use case, some arbitration errors are expected so we need to add retry logic. And PMBus subsystem uses I2C bus in kernel internally so retry logic should be supported in kernel level. To support the use case, this commit adds 'bus-timeout-ms' and '#retries' device tree properties to set the bus specific parameters at kernel boot time without using any additional ioctls from user space. This patch would not be accepted by I2C maintainer in linux upstream because he doesn't like adding these legacy properties into device tree, so keep it only in downstream. 2021-11-05Add I2C IPMB supportHaiyue Wang1-0/+124
Some protocols over I2C are designed for bi-directional transferring messages by using I2C Master Write protocol. Like the MCTP (Management Component Transport Protocol) and IPMB (Intelligent Platform Management Bus), they both require that the userspace can receive messages from I2C dirvers under slave mode. 2021-11-01ipmi: kcs_bmc: Add a "raw" character device interfaceAndrew Jeffery1-0/+25
The existing IPMI chardev encodes IPMI behaviours as the name suggests. However, KCS devices are useful beyond IPMI (or keyboards), as they provide a means to generate IRQs and exchange arbitrary data between a BMC and its host system. Implement a "raw" KCS character device that exposes the IDR, ODR and STR registers to userspace via read() and write() implemented on a character device: +--------+--------+---------+ | Offset | read() | write() | +--------+--------+---------+ | 0 | IDR | ODR | +--------+--------+---------+ | 1 | STR | STR | +--------+--------+---------+ This interface allows userspace to implement arbitrary (though somewhat inefficient) protocols for exchanging information between a BMC and host firmware. Conceptually the KCS interface can be used as an out-of-band mechanism for interrupt-signaled control messages while bulk data transfers occur over more appropriate interfaces between the BMC and the host (which may lack their own interrupt mechanism, e.g. LPC FW cycles). poll() is provided, which will wait for IBF or OBE conditions for data reads and writes respectively. Reads of STR on its own never blocks, though accessing both offsets in the one system call may block if the data registers are not ready. Use the more precise __kernel_sa_family_t for smctp_family, to match struct sockaddr. Also, use an unsigned int for the network member; negative networks don't make much sense. We're already using unsigned for mctp_dev and mctp_skb_cb, but need to change mctp_sock to suit. This reverts commit 2ae80900f239484069569380e1fc4340fd6e0089. My rework was unneeded & wrong. It replaced a clear & correct "reg" property usage with a custom "offset" one. Back then I didn't understand how to properly handle CRU block binding. I heard / read about syscon and tried to use it in a totally invalid way. That change also missed Rob's review (obviously). Northstar's pin controller is a simple consistent hardware block that can be cleanly mapped using a 0x24 long reg space. Since the rework commit there wasn't any follow up modifying in-kernel DTS files to use the new binding. Broadcom also isn't known to use that bugged binding. There is close to zero chance this revert may actually cause problems / regressions. This commit is a simple revert. Example binding may (should) be updated / cleaned up but that can be handled separately.
