2016-10-31x86/mm: Expand the exception table logic to allow new handling optionsTony Luck1-0/+35
commit 548acf19234dbda5a52d5a8e7e205af46e9da840 upstream. Huge amounts of help from Andy Lutomirski and Borislav Petkov to produce this. Andy provided the inspiration to add classes to the exception table with a clever bit-squeezing trick, Boris pointed out how much cleaner it would all be if we just had a new field. Linus Torvalds blessed the expansion with: ' I'd rather not be clever in order to save just a tiny amount of space in the exception table, which isn't really criticial for anybody. ' The third field is another relative function pointer, this one to a handler that executes the actions. We start out with three handlers: 1: Legacy - just jumps the to fixup IP 2: Fault - provide the trap number in %ax to the fixup code 3: Cleaned up legacy for the uaccess error hack Signed-off-by: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Borislav Petkov <bp@suse.de> Cc: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <peterz@infradead.org> Cc: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/f6af78fcbd348cf4939875cfda9c19689b5e50b8.1455732970.git.tony.luck@intel.com Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
2016-10-28Input: i8042 - skip selftest on ASUS laptopsMarcos Paulo de Souza1-1/+8
commit 930e19248e9b61da36c967687ca79c4d5f977919 upstream. On suspend/resume cycle, selftest is executed to reset i8042 controller. But when this is done in Asus devices, subsequent calls to detect/init functions to elantech driver fails. Skipping selftest fixes this problem. An easier step to reproduce this problem is adding i8042.reset=1 as a kernel parameter. On Asus laptops, it'll make the system to start with the touchpad already stuck, since psmouse_probe forcibly calls the selftest function. This patch was inspired by John Hiesey's change[1], but, since this problem affects a lot of models of Asus, let's avoid running selftests on them. All models affected by this problem: A455LD K401LB K501LB K501LX R409L V502LX X302LA X450LCP X450LD X455LAB X455LDB X455LF Z450LA [1]: https://marc.info/?l=linux-input&m=144312209020616&w=2 Fixes: "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad dies after resume from suspend" (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107971) Signed-off-by: Marcos Paulo de Souza <marcos.souza.org@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Dmitry Torokhov <dmitry.torokhov@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

commit 93bfe79b03365f410aa91caf04263173c008ecdf upstream. The mvs1 and mvs2 switches are actually called 5vs1 and 5vs2 on some datasheets. Let's rename them to match the datasheets and also match the RPM based regulator driver which calls these by their 5vs names (see qcom_smd-regulator.c). There aren't any users of these regulators so far, so there aren't any concerns of DT ABI breakage here. While we're here making updates to the switches, also mandate usage of the OCP irq for these switches too. 2016-09-15proc: revert /proc/<pid>/maps [stack:TID] annotationJohannes Weiner1-6/+3
[ Upstream commit 65376df582174ffcec9e6471bf5b0dd79ba05e4a ] Commit b76437579d13 ("procfs: mark thread stack correctly in proc/<pid>/maps") added [stack:TID] annotation to /proc/<pid>/maps. Finding the task of a stack VMA requires walking the entire thread list, turning this into quadratic behavior: a thousand threads means a thousand stacks, so the rendering of /proc/<pid>/maps needs to look at a million combinations. The cost is not in proportion to the usefulness as described in the patch. Drop the [stack:TID] annotation to make /proc/<pid>/maps (and /proc/<pid>/numa_maps) usable again for higher thread counts. The [stack] annotation inside /proc/<pid>/task/<tid>/maps is retained, as identifying the stack VMA there is an O(1) operation. Siddesh said: "The end users needed a way to identify thread stacks programmatically and there wasn't a way to do that. I'm afraid I no longer remember (or have access to the resources that would aid my memory since I changed employers) the details of their requirement. However, I did do this on my own time because I thought it was an interesting project for me and nobody really gave any feedback then as to its utility, so as far as I am concerned you could roll back the main thread maps information since the information is available in the thread-specific files" Signed-off-by: Johannes Weiner <hannes@cmpxchg.org> Cc: "Kirill A. 2016-07-27scsi: fix race between simultaneous decrements of ->host_failedWei Fang1-2/+6
commit 72d8c36ec364c82bf1bf0c64dfa1041cfaf139f7 upstream. sas_ata_strategy_handler() adds the works of the ata error handler to system_unbound_wq. This workqueue asynchronously runs work items, so the ata error handler will be performed concurrently on different CPUs. In this case, ->host_failed will be decreased simultaneously in scsi_eh_finish_cmd() on different CPUs, and become abnormal. It will lead to permanently inequality between ->host_failed and ->host_busy, and scsi error handler thread won't start running. IO errors after that won't be handled. Since all scmds must have been handled in the strategy handler, just remove the decrement in scsi_eh_finish_cmd() and zero ->host_busy after the strategy handler to fix this race. 2016-06-08pipe: limit the per-user amount of pages allocated in pipesWilly Tarreau1-0/+23
commit 759c01142a5d0f364a462346168a56de28a80f52 upstream. On no-so-small systems, it is possible for a single process to cause an OOM condition by filling large pipes with data that are never read. A typical process filling 4000 pipes with 1 MB of data will use 4 GB of memory. On small systems it may be tricky to set the pipe max size to prevent this from happening. This patch makes it possible to enforce a per-user soft limit above which new pipes will be limited to a single page, effectively limiting them to 4 kB each, as well as a hard limit above which no new pipes may be created for this user. This has the effect of protecting the system against memory abuse without hurting other users, and still allowing pipes to work correctly though with less data at once. The limit are controlled by two new sysctls : pipe-user-pages-soft, and pipe-user-pages-hard. Both may be disabled by setting them to zero. The default soft limit allows the default number of FDs per process (1024) to create pipes of the default size (64kB), thus reaching a limit of 64MB before starting to create only smaller pipes. With 256 processes limited to 1024 FDs each, this results in 1024*64kB + (256*1024 - 1024) * 4kB = 1084 MB of memory allocated for a user. The hard limit is disabled by default to avoid breaking existing applications that make intensive use of pipes (eg: for splicing). commit 17dcc37e3e847bc0e67a5b1ec52471fcc6c18682 upstream. On some SOCs PORTS_IMPL register value is never programmed by the firmware and left at zero value. Which means that no sata ports are available for software. AHCI driver used to cope up with this by fabricating the port_map if the PORTS_IMPL register is read zero, but recent patch broke this workaround as zero value was valid for NVMe disks. 2016-03-21drivers/serial: Add driver for Aspeed virtual UARTJeremy Kerr1-0/+1
This change adds a driver for the 16550-based Aspeed virtual UART device. We use a similar process to the of_serial driver for device probe, but expose some VUART-specific functions through sysfs too. If host TX discard mode is enabled, we don't see the LSR[RBR} bit getting set on new characters written on the host side. This makes the VUART a little useless. OpenPOWER firmware doesn't like it when the host-side of the VUART's FIFO is not drained. This change only disables host TX discard mode when the port is in use. We set the VUART enabled bit when we bind to the device, and clear it on unbind. We don't want to do this on open/release, as the host may be using this bit to configure serial output modes, which is independent of whether the devices has been opened by BMC userspace. 2016-03-21mtd/spi-nor: Add SPI memory controllers for ASPEED AST2400Milton D. Miller II1-0/+73
This driver adds mtd support for spi-nor attached to either or both of the Static Memory Controller (new registers) or the SPI Memory Controller. The Static Memory Controller is the boot soruce for the SOC. The controller supports up to 5 chip selects in any combination of NAND, NOR, and SPI. The memory controller registers were updated in the AST2300 and this fmc binding is for the registers in the new mode. This driver currently supports only SPI-NOR attached memory, but has some considerations to support the others later (including choice of the Kconfig symbol). There is also a similar register set to support the Static Memory Controller in a legacy address mode. That mode is not currently supported because it is expected that the system will run with the fmc binding supporting multiple chip selects. The normal application of the SPI Memory Controller is designated for use by the host system either for video bios or system bios and can be accessed over either an LPC bus and/or a PCIe bus or via a SPI passthough. The SOC can also access this chip for firmware updates when not in passthrough mode. It is expected the passthru mode and the alternate chip select will be controlled by a future pinmux driver. This driver has only been tested with the ast2400 SOC. mtd: spi-nor: aspeed-smc: Use io string accessors to fifo Make and use new routines to access the fifo when in user mode. Instead of using memcpy_fromio, base the new routines on the io port string accessors. When the smc controllers are configured to transfer in user mode, the exact address within the chip select region is ignored and all valid data bytes are sent to the device fifo. It has been determined the reason _memcpy_fromio, an arm specific byte-by-byte variant of memcpy_fromio was required in read_reg, is that the later will stutter when coping from memory, discarding some bytes read, when switching from words to bytes for the final unaligned length. This change includes a hack to make inw/outw work. The default generic IO_SPACE_LIMIT is 0, and twenty bits when PCI is selected. While there is a PCMCIA SOC config to select the full 4GB space it would bring in the PCMCIA core for no use to the ast2400. We want to be part of the generic multi-platform arm kernel and therefore mach/io.h is not going to work. However, the limit is under an ifndef, so define it in this file an check it was not redefine at probe time. To avoid redefinition errors or warnings, guard the setting with CONFIG_ARM for cross-arch compile testing and with a Kconfig dependency for arm cross-compile tests. While some other architecture may not accept unsigned long addresses as ioport cookies, that can be addressed when, if ever, the hardware appears on another arch. While the change to use the designed-for-memory optimised copy template, even reusing the bytes of memcpy, was a recent change and only for little endian arm, designing and proposing a patch will take some time and there could be debate if the routine needs to work on changing memory. 2016-03-16KVM: MMU: fix ept=0/pte.u=1/pte.w=0/CR0.WP=0/CR4.SMEP=1/EFER.NX=0 comboPaolo Bonzini1-1/+2
commit 844a5fe219cf472060315971e15cbf97674a3324 upstream. Yes, all of these are needed. :) This is admittedly a bit odd, but kvm-unit-tests access.flat tests this if you run it with "-cpu host" and of course ept=0. KVM runs the guest with CR0.WP=1, so it must handle supervisor writes specially when pte.u=1/pte.w=0/CR0.WP=0. Such writes cause a fault when U=1 and W=0 in the SPTE, but they must succeed because CR0.WP=0. When KVM gets the fault, it sets U=0 and W=1 in the shadow PTE and restarts execution. This will still cause a user write to fault, while supervisor writes will succeed. User reads will fault spuriously now, and KVM will then flip U and W again in the SPTE (U=1, W=0). User reads will be enabled and supervisor writes disabled, going back to the originary situation where supervisor writes fault spuriously. When SMEP is in effect, however, U=0 will enable kernel execution of this page. To avoid this, KVM also sets NX=1 in the shadow PTE together with U=0. If the guest has not enabled NX, the result is a continuous stream of page faults due to the NX bit being reserved. The fix is to force EFER.NX=1 even if the CPU is taking care of the EFER switch. (All machines with SMEP have the CPU_LOAD_IA32_EFER vm-entry control, so they do not use user-return notifiers for EFER---if they did, EFER.NX would be forced to the same value as the host). There is another bug in the reserved bit check, which I've split to a separate patch for easier application to stable kernels. 2016-03-04efi: Make efivarfs entries immutable by defaultPeter Jones1-0/+7
commit ed8b0de5a33d2a2557dce7f9429dca8cb5bc5879 upstream. "rm -rf" is bricking some peoples' laptops because of variables being used to store non-reinitializable firmware driver data that's required to POST the hardware. These are 100% bugs, and they need to be fixed, but in the mean time it shouldn't be easy to *accidentally* brick machines. We have to have delete working, and picking which variables do and don't work for deletion is quite intractable, so instead make everything immutable by default (except for a whitelist), and make tools that aren't quite so broad-spectrum unset the immutable flag. 2015-12-18drivers: net: cpsw: fix RMII/RGMII mode when used with fixed-link PHYDavid Rivshin1-3/+3
Commit 1f71e8c96fc654724723ce987e0a8b2aeb81746d ("drivers: net: cpsw: Add support for fixed-link PHY") did not parse the "phy-mode" property in the case of a fixed-link PHY, leaving slave_data->phy_if with its default of PHY_INTERFACE_MODE_NA(0). This later gets passed to phy_connect() in cpsw_slave_open(), and eventually to cpsw_phy_sel() where it hits a default case that configures the MAC for MII mode. The user visible symptom is that while kernel log messages seem to indicate that the interface is set up, there is no network communication.
