Pull pin control updates from Linus Walleij:
"This is the bulk of pin control changes for the v4.15 kernel cycle:
Core:
- The pin control Kconfig entry PINCTRL is now turned into a
menuconfig option. This obviously has the implication of making the
subsystem menu visible in menuconfig. This is happening because of
two things:
(a) Intel have started to deploy and depend on pin controllers in
a way that is affecting users directly. This happens on the
highly integrated laptop chipsets named after geographical
places: baytrail, broxton, cannonlake, cedarfork, cherryview,
denverton, geminilake, lewisburg, merrifield, sunrisepoint...
It started a while back and now it is ever more evident that
this is crucial infrastructure for x86 laptops and not an
embedded obscurity anymore. Users need to be aware.
(b) Pin control expanders on I2C and SPI that are arch-agnostic.
Currently Semtech SX150X and Microchip MCP28x08 but more are
expected. Users will have to be able to configure these in
directly for their set-up.
- Just go and select GPIOLIB now that we made sure that GPIOLIB is a
very vanilla subsystem. Do not depend on it, if we need it, select
it.
- Exposing the pin control subsystem in menuconfig uncovered a bunch
of obscure bugs that are now hopefully fixed, all more or less
pertaining to Blackfin.
- Unified namespace for cross-calls between pin control and GPIO.
- New support for clock skew/delay generic DT bindings and generic
pin config options for this.
- Minor documentation improvements.
Various:
- The Renesas SH-PFC pin controller has evolved a lot. It seems
Renesas are churning out new SoCs by the minute.
- A bunch of non-critical fixes for the Rockchip driver.
- Improve the use of library functions instead of open coding.
- Support the MCP28018 variant in the MCP28x08 driver.
- Static constifying"

Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"There are no real big ticket items here this time.
The most noticeable change is probably the relocation of the OPP
(Operating Performance Points) framework to its own directory under
drivers/ as it has grown big enough for that. Also Viresh is now going
to maintain it and send pull requests for it to me, so you will see
this change in the git history going forward (but still not right
now).
Another noticeable set of changes is the modifications of the PM core,
the PCI subsystem and the ACPI PM domain to allow of more integration
between system-wide suspend/resume and runtime PM. For now it's just a
way to avoid resuming devices from runtime suspend unnecessarily
during system suspend (if the driver sets a flag to indicate its
readiness for that) and in the works is an analogous mechanism to
allow devices to stay suspended after system resume.
In addition to that, we have some changes related to supporting
frequency-invariant CPU utilization metrics in the scheduler and in
the schedutil cpufreq governor on ARM and changes to add support for
device performance states to the generic power domains (genpd)
framework.
The rest is mostly fixes and cleanups of various sorts.
Specifics:
- Relocate the OPP (Operating Performance Points) framework to its
own directory under drivers/ and add support for power domain
performance states to it (Viresh Kumar).
- Modify the PM core, the PCI bus type and the ACPI PM domain to
support power management driver flags allowing device drivers to
specify their capabilities and preferences regarding the handling
of devices with enabled runtime PM during system suspend/resume and
clean up that code somewhat (Rafael Wysocki, Ulf Hansson).
- Add frequency-invariant accounting support to the task scheduler on
ARM and ARM64 (Dietmar Eggemann).
- Fix PM QoS device resume latency framework to prevent "no
restriction" requests from overriding requests with specific
requirements and drop the confusing PM_QOS_FLAG_REMOTE_WAKEUP
device PM QoS flag (Rafael Wysocki).
- Drop legacy class suspend/resume operations from the PM core and
drop legacy bus type suspend and resume callbacks from ARM/locomo
(Rafael Wysocki).
- Add min/max frequency support to devfreq and clean it up somewhat
(Chanwoo Choi).
- Rework wakeup support in the generic power domains (genpd)
framework and update some of its users accordingly (Geert
Uytterhoeven).
- Convert timers in the PM core to use timer_setup() (Kees Cook).
- Add support for exposing the SLP_S0 (Low Power S0 Idle) residency
counter based on the LPIT ACPI table on Intel platforms (Srinivas
Pandruvada).
- Add per-CPU PM QoS resume latency support to the ladder cpuidle
governor (Ramesh Thomas).
- Fix a deadlock between the wakeup notify handler and the notifier
removal in the ACPI core (Ville Syrjälä).
- Fix a cpufreq schedutil governor issue causing it to use stale
cached frequency values sometimes (Viresh Kumar).
- Fix an issue in the system suspend core support code causing wakeup
events detection to fail in some cases (Rajat Jain).
- Fix the generic power domains (genpd) framework to prevent the PM
core from using the direct-complete optimization with it as that is
guaranteed to fail (Ulf Hansson).
- Fix a minor issue in the cpuidle core and clean it up a bit (Gaurav
Jindal, Nicholas Piggin).
- Fix and clean up the intel_idle and ARM cpuidle drivers (Jason
Baron, Len Brown, Leo Yan).
- Fix a couple of minor issues in the OPP framework and clean it up
(Arvind Yadav, Fabio Estevam, Sudeep Holla, Tobias Jordan).
- Fix and clean up some cpufreq drivers and fix a minor issue in the
cpufreq statistics code (Arvind Yadav, Bhumika Goyal, Fabio
Estevam, Gautham Shenoy, Gustavo Silva, Marek Szyprowski, Masahiro
Yamada, Robert Jarzmik, Zumeng Chen).
- Fix minor issues in the system suspend and hibernation core, in
power management documentation and in the AVS (Adaptive Voltage
Scaling) framework (Helge Deller, Himanshu Jha, Joe Perches, Rafael
Wysocki).
- Fix some issues in the cpupower utility and document that Shuah
Khan is going to maintain it going forward (Prarit Bhargava, Shuah
Khan)"

Define and document a SMART_SUSPEND flag to instruct bus types and PM
domains that the system suspend callbacks provided by the driver can
cope with runtime-suspended devices, so from the driver's perspective
it should be safe to leave devices in runtime suspend during system
suspend.
Setting that flag may also cause middle-layer code (bus types,
PM domains etc.) to skip invocations of the ->suspend_late and
->suspend_noirq callbacks provided by the driver if the device
is in runtime suspend at the beginning of the "late" phase of
the system-wide suspend transition, in which case the driver's
system-wide resume callbacks may be invoked back-to-back with
its ->runtime_suspend callback, so the driver has to be able to
cope with that too.

The motivation for this change is to provide a way to work around
a problem with the direct-complete mechanism used for avoiding
system suspend/resume handling for devices in runtime suspend.
The problem is that some middle layer code (the PCI bus type and
the ACPI PM domain in particular) returns positive values from its
system suspend ->prepare callbacks regardless of whether the driver's
->prepare returns a positive value or 0, which effectively prevents
drivers from being able to control the direct-complete feature.
Some drivers need that control, however, and the PCI bus type has
grown its own flag to deal with this issue, but since it is not
limited to PCI, it is better to address it by adding driver flags at
the core level.
To that end, add a driver_flags field to struct dev_pm_info for flags
that can be set by device drivers at the probe time to inform the PM
core and/or bus types, PM domains and so on on the capabilities and/or
preferences of device drivers. Also add two static inline helpers
for setting that field and testing it against a given set of flags
and make the driver core clear it automatically on driver remove
and probe failures.
Define and document two PM driver flags related to the direct-
complete feature: NEVER_SKIP and SMART_PREPARE that can be used,
respectively, to indicate to the PM core that the direct-complete
mechanism should never be used for the device and to inform the
middle layer code (bus types, PM domains etc) that it can only
request the PM core to use the direct-complete mechanism for
the device (by returning a positive value from its ->prepare
callback) if it also has been requested by the driver.
While at it, make the core check pm_runtime_suspended() when
setting power.direct_complete so that it doesn't need to be
checked by ->prepare callbacks.

It quite often is necessary to resume devices from runtime suspend
during system suspend for various reasons (for example, if their
wakeup settings need to be changed), but that requires middle-layer
or subsystem code to follow additional rules which currently are not
clearly documented.
Namely, if a driver calls pm_runtime_resume() for the device from
its ->suspend (or equivalent) system sleep callback, that may not
work if the middle layer above it has updated the state of the
device from its ->prepare or ->suspend callbacks already in an
incompatible way. For this reason, all middle layers must follow
the rule that, until the ->suspend callback provided by the device's
driver is invoked, the only way in which the device's state can be
updated is by calling pm_runtime_resume() for it, if necessary.
Fortunately enough, all middle layers in the code base today follow
this rule, but it is not explicitly stated anywhere, so do that.
Note that calling pm_runtime_resume() from the ->suspend callback
of a driver will cause the ->runtime_resume callback provided by the
middle layer to be invoked, but the rule above guarantees that this
callback will nest properly with the middle layer's ->suspend
callback and it will play well with the ->prepare one invoked before.

This reverts commit 81f95076281fdd3bc382e004ba1bce8e82fccbce.
It causes random failures of firmware loading at resume time (well,
random for me, it seems to be more reliable for others) because the
firmware disabling is not actually synchronous with any particular
resume event, and at least the btusb driver that uses a workqueue to
load the firmware at resume seems to occasionally hit the "firmware
loading is disabled" logic because the firmware loader hasn't gotten the
resume event yet.
Some kind of sanity check for not trying to load firmware when it's not
possible might be a good thing, but this commit was not it.
Greg seems to have silently suffered the same issue, and pointed to the
likely culprit, and Gabriel C verified the revert fixed it for him too.

"This is the bulk of the GPIO changes for the v4.14 cycle.
Not so much changes this time, phew. David Daney and Bartosz
Golaszewski did all the really interesting work in infrastructure
improvement across GPIO and IRQ core, hats off for them and to tglx
and Marc Z for general help with these patch sets.
Core changes:
- Allow the GPIO irqchip to allocate IRQs dynamically. This is an
important change on systems where only a restricted number of IRQs,
lesser than the number of GPIO lines, can be utilized. Now we can
allocate these on a first-come-first-served basis instead of
hogging up valuable IRQ lines.
- Serious fix-up of the kerneldoc documentation and inclusion into
the kerneldoc builds.
- Pulled in the IRQ simulator from the IRQ core tree and use this in
the GPIO mockup driver for exhaustive testing of interrupt
abilities.
New drivers:
- New driver for ThunderX and OCTEON-TX. This is especially
interesting as it picks up improvements from the IRQ core that
allow us to handle fasteoi ACKs upwards in a hierarchy when there
are IRQ flag latches on several levels in a hierarchy. Very
interesting work here.
- New subdriver for Renesas R-Car r8a7745 (RZ/G1E).

This adds a section about the various parts of the GPIO subsystem to the
driver API documentation. Note that this isn't exhaustive documentation,
but rather focusses on pulling in the kerneldoc from various sources, in
order to improve coverage of kerneldoc processing.

We are planning to share more code between different NAND based
devices (SPI NAND, OneNAND and raw NANDs), but before doing that
we need to move the existing include/linux/mtd/nand.h file into
include/linux/mtd/rawnand.h so we can later create a nand.h header
containing all common structure and function prototypes.

Pull pin control updates from Linus Walleij:
"This is the big bulk of pin control changes for the v4.13 series:
Core:
- The documentation is moved over to RST.
- We now have agreed bindings for enabling input and output buffers
without actually enabling input and/or output on a pin. We are
chiseling out some details of pin control electronics.
New drivers:
- ZTE ZX
- Renesas RZA1
- MIPS Ingenic JZ47xx: also switch over existing drivers in the tree
to use this pin controller and consolidate earlier spread out code.
- Microschip MCP23S08: this driver is migrated from the GPIO
subsystem and totally rewritten to use proper pin control. All
users are switched over.
New subdrivers:
- Renesas R8A7743 and R8A7745.
- Allwinner Sunxi A83T R_PIO.
- Marvell MVEBU Armada CP110 and AP806.
- Intel Cannon Lake PCH.
- Qualcomm IPQ8074.
Notable improvements:
- IRQ support on the Marvell MVEBU Armada 37xx.
- Meson driver supports HDMI CEC, AO, I2S, SPDIF and PWM.
- Rockchip driver now supports iomux-route switching for RK3228,
RK3328 and RK3399.
- Rockchip A10 and A20 are merged into a single driver.
- STM32 has improved GPIO support.
- Samsung Exynos drivers are split per ARMv7 and ARMv8.
- Marvell MVEBU is converted to use regmap for register access.
Maintenance:
- Several Renesas SH-PFC refactorings and updates.
- Serious code size cut for Mediatek MT7623.

The firmware API should not be used after we go to suspend
and after we reboot/halt. The suspend/resume case is a bit
complex, so this documents that so things are clearer.
We want to know about users of the API in incorrect places so
that their callers are corrected, so this also adds a warn
for those cases.
