The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This
patch replaces cases of:

        kmalloc(a * b, gfp)

with:
        kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp)

as well as handling cases of:

        kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp)

with:

        kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)

as it's slightly less ugly than:

        kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp)

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own
implementation of kmalloc().

The Coccinelle script used for this was:

// Fix redundant parens around sizeof().

Convert the S_&lt;FOO&gt; symbolic permissions to their octal equivalents as
using octal and not symbolic permissions is preferred by many as more
readable.

Done with automated conversion via:
$ ./scripts/checkpatch.pl -f --types=SYMBOLIC_PERMS --fix-inplace &lt;files...&gt;

DAC960 just sets the block bounce limit to the dma mask, which means
that the iommu or swiotlb already take care of the bounce buffering,
and the block bouncing can be removed.

When CONFIG_KASAN is set, all the local variables in this function are
allocated on the stack together, leading to a warning about possible
kernel stack overflow:

drivers/block/DAC960.c: In function 'DAC960_gam_ioctl':
drivers/block/DAC960.c:7061:1: error: the frame size of 2240 bytes is larger than 2048 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=]

By splitting up the function into smaller chunks, we can avoid that and
make the code slightly more readable at the same time. The coding style
in this file is completely nonstandard, and I chose to not touch that
at all, leaving the unconventional intendation unchanged to make it
easier to review the diff.

The PCI pool API is deprecated. Replace the PCI pool old API by the
appropriate function with the DMA pool API.

<title>treewide: setup_timer() -&gt; timer_setup()</title>

This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using
timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already
holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes,
since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with
the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following
examples, in addition to some other variations.

Casting from unsigned long:

    void my_callback(unsigned long data)
    {
        struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data;
    ...
    }
    ...
    setup_timer(&amp;ptr-&gt;my_timer, my_callback, ptr);

and forced object casts:

    void my_callback(struct something *ptr)
    {
    ...
    }
    ...
    setup_timer(&amp;ptr-&gt;my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr);

become:

    void my_callback(struct timer_list *t)
    {
        struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer);
    ...
    }
    ...
    timer_setup(&amp;ptr-&gt;my_timer, my_callback, 0);

Direct function assignments:

    void my_callback(unsigned long data)
    {
        struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data;
    ...
    }
    ...
    ptr-&gt;my_timer.function = my_callback;

have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args:

    void my_callback(struct timer_list *t)
    {
        struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer);
    ...
    }
    ...
    ptr-&gt;my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback;

And finally, callbacks without a data assignment:

    void my_callback(unsigned long data)
    {
    ...
    }
    ...
    setup_timer(&amp;ptr-&gt;my_timer, my_callback, 0);

have their argument renamed to verify they're unused during conversion:

    void my_callback(struct timer_list *unused)
    {
    ...
    }
    ...
    timer_setup(&amp;ptr-&gt;my_timer, my_callback, 0);

The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script:

spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \
	-I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \
	-I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \
	-I ./arch/x86/include/generated/uapi -I ./include/uapi \
	-I ./include/generated/uapi --include ./include/linux/kconfig.h \
	--dir . \
	--cocci-file ~/src/data/timer_setup.cocci
